Captain for the final / next season

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Captain for the final / next season

Postby Ruthless » Fri May 13, 2011 3:11 pm

I would like to hear your views on who should captain our beloved city tomorrow and further more next season.

If rumours are to believed then Carlos has told Mr Mancini that he wants to leave in the summer for Italy and if this is actually the case as only Bobby will know i dont think he should be given the priviledge of captaining the team tomorrow. Vinny and NDJ were immense in the semi and again against spuds infact all season, on top of that they have both come out in the press and stated they want to stay at city for life this to me is the behaviour of a captain and sends a message to anyone else sniffing for their signature to forget it regardless of who they are. These are two top world class players who could play in virtually any team in world football yet their ego hasn't got the better of them, dont get me wrong I love Tevez n hope he stays but their is no smoke without fire

Well I've a feeling Tevez will start on the bench, which will mean Kompany leading the team out.

That said, IF Tevez is leaving, then I don't see the problem with him captaining the side if he starts. He has successfully lead us to where we are now and irrespective of why he wants to leave ( the word Judas in this context is beyond fucking silly), he more than deserves to finish the job he has already done 99% of.

If its him holding the cup aloft, I don't see why we shouldn't be proud.

What a player.

Kompany will be our captain next season and for years to come I'd imagine, so there's no need for silly sentiment on the most important day of my lifetime as far as city are concerned.

I was shocked that Kompany was not made captain at the start of the season so for me the choice is easy. Kompany has led this team magnificantly since he got the armband, better than any captain I've seen in the recent years and is a born leader.

He is the backbone, heart and soul of this team along a selected few others. Kompany should keep the armband nomatter who starts or not tomorow:-)

For me, if Tevez starts he should lead the team out. He is the nominated captain and it would be a call that benefits nobody to strip him of it at this stage. There is no way Vinnie will stop being a natural, vocal leader with or without the armband.

However, if (when?) Tevez leaves in the summer Kompany is the only man who Mancini should be looking at in terms of the armband.

Vinny is the only obvious choice...he gives everything to this club...on the pitch and OFF THE FUCKING PITCH.
He is what a true captain should be............people wanting Tevez to be captain really need to fucking bang their heads against a spiky wall.

I would like Vinnie to captain us tomorrow and for the long term as well.
If Tevez had made the effort to watch the team in the semi final, like Rooney did, then I might have a different view.
I love the little guy for the goals he's scored and for even having the guts to join us in the first place. But he's no captain and never was.

No doubt for me tomorrow and next season too: Vinnie for captain, Carlos on the bench tomorrow and in Italy or in Spain for next season!
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

Carlos for me. He's currently captain (and we know why he was made captain and we also all know that, on the pitch Vincent and Nigel and the likes are the real leaders) and if he starts he should lead us out.

Part of me thinks that, for him, he'll want to win this personally but will have a sense that he owes it to us, the fans. Equally, if he is going to leave I'd imagine he thinks that leaving us in CL and with the FA Cup is not the worst type of desertion.

I'd like him to play and I'd like him motivated to the max. So armband on it is.

He was made captain to fucking placate him.....well hes off so there's no need to give the armband back to him.

This would be a smack in the face of Vinny..the most loyal cunt (alongside Nige) in our set up.

This.

I thought Tevez as a skipper was odd decision and I don't subscibe to "you give arm band to best player in the team" school of thought. You give it to best leader and someone who will represent club well. Vinnie K was born to do it.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

haha....I can just imagine you having a paddy at the thought of him walking out wearing it!

I don't disagree where you're coming from on the first sentence mate....but I honestly think that Vinny (as would Nige) would completely understand why Mancini might give it to Tevez...I don't think it would affect him in the least.

WHEREAS, if you play Tevez from the start without giving him the captaincy I think you could actually take a notch of intensity away as he'd be seeing his arse.

Now what I would say that is, if he does by some chance stay next year there is no fucking chance he should retain the captaincy. Now that we're dining at the top table, none of these players is "doing us a favour" playing for City and they need to all toe the line and play for the club and their teammates. No more of this pandering to him and letting him run off to knob Brenda when he wants....he plays on the same terms everyone else does or fully agree he should be sold

As odd as this may sound, this is one of the reasons why Vinnie and Nigel should be skipper and co-skipper. These people understand the bigger picture.

Next year Antti....100%. They were my choices for both roles this year (and last for that matter when the choice of Kolo baffled me)

I could be wrong but I don't think Tevez took the armband off Kompany when he came on against Spurs. I've seen other substitute skippers come on and take the armband off the captain, so hopefully it will be Vinny. If both start then I think Tevez will lose more from his game than Vinny will. As has been said already, Vinny is the real deal as a man and player and a definite leader of men.

Carlos for me tomorrow.
If he is going. Thanks for the entertaiment and good luck.
Next year as people have been saying VK seems to be the right choice but I would like to make Micah Vice.
Out of all the team he strikes me as the most attached to us.

Honestly, if I were manager (you wish...;) and I got the feeling Tevez would play worse given that I've chosen to give Kompany the armband I'd bench him (Tevez).

As was mentioned before being upset because someone else gets the armband and letting that affect your performance is excactly the reason why someone should not have it.

That being said, I don't feel that Tevez is the kind of guy who'd not give 100%. Even after he said he wanted to go to Italy he has given 100%, and even now he is saying he is desperate to play a part in the final. Does not sound like someone letting an armband get in the way of a good runout:-)

He's the captain....not on an ad hoc basis. He was appointed captain at the start of the season. The only time someone else should lead the team out is when he is unavailable to start or doesn't start.

I didn't say he'd willfully play worse, my point is that he is clearly an emotional guy...it very well might get to him and detract from his performance and purely due to that risk (allied to the fact that I cannot remotely see Vinnie being bothered) that I would not choose to have another player lead us out
