And, notwithstanding that stupid penalty he conceded early in the season, he hasn't done too much wrong on the pitch.

I'd strongly disagree there.

I feel his presence on the pitch for most of the game and particularly the second half against Everton was the main reason we didn't get 3 points and aren't sitting in 3rd, all set for automatic champion's league qualification.

Its not his fault and I agree he's the ultimate pro, but he's about 57 and unless its to slow a game down or re take possession for the last ten mins of certain games, I think he's only good for morale and maybe in a coaching capacity.

I still would have liked us to break the bank at the time and get a similar midfielder in his prime because its exactly what we're missing and who knows where we'd be had we done so.... champions mabye? We'll find out next season I suppose, if we finally do get such a signing.

He's done a job though, no doubt. But he was no Bellamy for changing people's opinions to such an extent - that's for fucking sure!

A hard one this and I couldnt commit either way. I'd have to speak to the man and then let him decide.. he seems the type whos honest within himself.
If he was to be the same as this season then definately, hes added much more to the team and club than just pitch time.

I'm hoping that he will stay and have one last cracking season, a little bit like Hamann. His first season at City wasn't very impressive, and we were all screaming for him to retire, but the second season he really stepped up and seemed to find some long lost form from somewhere. Too bad he didn't quit after the 2007/2008 season, though, because next season he was back to being geriatric patient.

No way, no way. He's old, slow and about 5 years past it. He's a great influence, i'm sure of that so offer him a contract as a coach.
We already have too many defensive midfielders.

But that's a perfect reason to keep him. For league games and especially in CL, we are going to face many situations like that, where we need only protect a lead or an advantage on aggregate or away goals.

My heart would love to include him, but my head says a big no.. maybe if he can be just in the CL squad and we dont have anyone else as experienced replacement . Defo keep him as a coach.

Ok. All this Vieira as a coach talk is just horrible. It's a well known fact that he was one of the WORST in the training in Arsenal and I've hardly heard glowing references from training reports with us either.

He was one of the best, if not the best, holding midfielders in the world ten years ago. Brilliant player to watch. He did job for us too. He was born winner. But I doubt he'll ever make a good coach. How good you were as a player has fuck all to do with how good you'll be as a coach, nevermind manager.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

We need to be investing in younger, up and coming players. We don't have space for him. He isn't good enough to start games and there's no room for a player who's only good at coming on with ten minutes to go.

How do you explain Milner then?

To be honest I was never too keen for us to sign Milner. Especially not at the price we did. Always thought he was a decent player, not top class. However he was very good against Spurs in central midfield. He should take Barry's place.
