Good Kompany interview on fitness and physicallity

Rough translation from Flemish:

Kompany: I feel like I'm eighteen again.

Is England still more physical than Germany?

"There's a world of difference. The players are heavier, faster, stronger. You have to one hundred percent trained and mentally prepared to race and deal with the physicality. That I happen to have developed an upper body is really funny because I never specifically train my upper body. Every day I do trunk stabilization, but I just go to the gym for my legs.

I think my body has only now matured. I also see the difference with a few years ago and I also feel how the other players compete against me, get me down, but I have done nothing special for it. I weigh 95 kilograms (I was 84 at Anderlecht) and am 1m 93 and feel on top of my ability. "

You're faster, making it easier to win matches.

"After I had an Achilles tendon operation I lost a half-yard of pace, but I've adapted to that, and come back from it. I've played matches where I felt physically very bad, but I've stepped up my gameplay simultaneously. My second year in England I had just the same when I broke my toe: again i was a bit slow when compared with the past. I never thought that I physically could reach this level again. At eighteen, I was still playing without ever having received a major injury, that's the difference. Suddenly everything has come back, my legs, my speed. I am eighteen again. Yes, my body has surprised me, but I'm not surprised about how I perform. "

My translation may not be 100% accurate, so maybe someone else could double-check? Seems as if he's put his injury problems totally behind himself. There's a fuller interview which I'll try to get hold of once I'm back in Belgium.

This is bullshit. The fitness coach who Hughes brought in told that Mancini's training methods were worst he had ever seen.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I agree. I mean what has this guy ever done for the Club? Who gives a fuck about FA Cup Final if you can't get world record for most draws in a season. Drawing is the new winning.

You want to have an argument about Mark Hughes on FA Cup final day?

Are you fucking obsessed?

No thanks.

You are questioning training methods of our manager on FA Cup final day?

Are you retarded?

Give it a rest you fucking clown, you pointed out that a fitness coach had questioned his methods and I pointed out 3 top class players who agree.

Now fucking pipe down for a change and forget about Hughes.

This is probably the funniest post I've read in a while.

a) Kompany implies in an interview that it's his own body that has overcome its injuries, and does not mention whatsoever Mancini's training methods.
b) NQDP, obviously up for some big-time Mancini love judging from posts over the past 24 hours, reads thread
c) 'I was right all along' syndrome kicks in
d) Thread is turned around to be about Mark Hughes

Of all days to get high and mighty... sad cunt indeed.

"Lets all praise Mancini" and forget all about the "Depressed" thread I started, eh NQDP?

I know you find it difficult to smile, but now would be a good time.

Of course there's tons of Mancini love. He has guided us to CL and most importantly to FA Cup final. If he delivers today, he will be demigod for my for the rest of my life. I'm sure any sensible Blue would agree with that and certainly not find anything to moan about his actions few hours before His Finest Hour (and a half).

It's only a matter of a few weeks ago that you were agreeing with me and saying you weren't happy.

If we were to set up defensively today and scrape a 1-0 win I'd be glad we won but I would still come on here and criticise Mancini - oh yes.

I never ever asked for Mancini sacking though. We were playing poorly around january february but in the end he has delivered. Like he has throughout his managerial career. That's why I campaigned for him in the first place.

Has he really delivered though?

There's a perfectly valid school of thought that he should have delivered us the title (or damned close to it).

Anyway, as someone else said : it's cup final day, let's enjoy it :-)
