As was mentioned before being upset because someone else gets the armband and letting that affect your performance is excactly the reason why someone should not have it.
He's the captain....not on an ad hoc basis. He was appointed captain at the start of the season. The only time someone else should lead the team out is when he is unavailable to start or doesn't start.
I didn't say he'd willfully play worse, my point is that he is clearly an emotional guy...it very well might get to him and detract from his performance and purely due to that risk (allied to the fact that I cannot remotely see Vinnie being bothered) that I would not choose to have another player lead us out
I respect your opinion, but I disagree:-)
I think the team has looked ALOT more solid since he took over the armband. I believe the match he did marked a turnaround in form, not all because of him ofcourse... but I think he has steered the general attitude of the team and I think we look more solid as of late. Now I agree that maybe Tevez will be better if he gets the 'band. But in my opinion our team spirit and structure will be better with Kompany and I believe that is more important to bring home the Cup:-)
Too bad we'll never know what both scenarios would have brought eh!
P.S Teams have surely changed captain midseason before? I mean a permanent switch? It's not written in stone that if you're chosen come start of the season you'll be cappy cap for the remainder of it?
