"Manchester The Greatest City" Kindle version of chapters

Postby gary james » Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:02 am

A few weeks ago I managed to get a chapter from my 1997 book "Manchester The Greatest City" available in kindle format via Amazon. Over the last few weeks further sections have now been added taking the story up to 1989. The missing chapters will be added soon.

These sections are predominantly text based (although some do carry a few simple images of key moments) and are laid out in a simple layout (not the original book's design), however they should prove of immense interest to anyone interested in reading that book. The book went out of print in 2003 and I am asked almost daily when copies will be available in ebook etc. So here goes...

Amazon give you the opportunity of reading a sample section, so it'd be worth taking a look at a couple of the chapters at least to get a feel for the wording.

The current sections available are:

1880 - 1892: This contains around 9,000 words & 1 image. The kindle chapter can be purchased for £1.71 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-The- ... 373&sr=1-4

1892 - 1904: This contains over 23,000 words & 3 images and can be purchased for £3.45 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-Grea ... 961&sr=1-7

1919 - 1937: This contains over 30,000 words & 9 images and can be purchased for £3.45 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-Grea ... 245&sr=1-7

1937 - 1965: This contains over 32,000 words & 10 images and can be purchased for £3.45 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-Grea ... 245&sr=1-8

1965 - 1974: This contains around 40,000 words & 11 images and can be purchased for £3.45 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-Grea ... 245&sr=1-4

1974 - 1989: This contains around 48,000 words & 9 images and can be purchased for £3.45 from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manchester-Grea ... 245&sr=1-5

Further details on each section are available on Amazon via the above links as are sample pages. Further sections covering the entire period up to 2002 (when the book was last updated) will appear soon.

Cheers Gary

Gary - thanks so much for making the effort with these Kindle versions. I finally got around to buying a Kindle, and the 1880-1892 section was the very 1st book I bought. It's absolutely brilliant and I'll be downloading the other 5 sections for sure.

A used copy of the 2002 edition runs $80-$120 with shipping to the U.S. so you can imagine how nice it is to be able to download this stuff instantly and for a fair price, particularly for an overseas fan. I also see you've taken the time to update some of the text since the '02 printing, which is terrific.

I really hope you will consider e-publishing the rest of the book once all the "era" sections are out.

I'd love to get them all in ebook format but there are issues (particularly with images). Glad you like what you've bought so far.

There's currently an issue with text for the final section, plus the Maine Citizens & Managerial profiles. It's format needs a lot of work, but once it's ready we'll make sure it gets up there.

Thanks for your comments.
