I mentioned on another thread that Bob had talked about signing young players as he thinks we're short in that department. Here he specifically says we need to sign 4 or 5.

I doubt he's picked that figure out of fresh air. I bet that's based on young players we are trying to sign.

Michael Johnson and Guidetti are two completely different cases.

Guidetti is promising youngster coming through who seems to suffer from Danny Sturridge syndrome and I think Mancini HAS to stamp his authority on him to show ALL THE OTHER youngsters in Academy that there'll be no funny business with us. I'd hate to lese Guidetti for good as I'd like to see him given chance somewhere down the line but if he goes he goes and I'm sure we'll meet one day when we play Burnley or Derby in Cup. Maybe he'll even end up eventually to Fulham or mighty Stoke.

Michael Johnson on the other hand is 23. He should be close to prime of his career. In footballing sense he is no kid no more. He has had injury torubles for sure but he has also had tons of well documented off the field troubles. Pros and cons of hanging onto him aren't in balance anymore. I would give him season long loan deal somewhere and see what happens but I wouldn't be upset to see him move to pastures new.

Tbf, I think Guidetti is just being honest. He's always worked really really hard, to the point of obsession on his development as a player & now, if he's to improve, it's vital that he gets 1st team football. I don't think it's chasing cash like Sturridge. I'm not sure if Guidetti will ever be top class but if he isn't, it won't be for the lack of trying.

I agree that he is trying hard and I'm not blaming the lad. Having said that, I do think Mancini needs to show who's the boss for all the kids.

My point was more about Johnson. He is 23, can't treat him as some sort of kid who is one for the future anymore.

True, MJ is no kid anymore and JG has a bit of an ego problem (although tbf, all good strikers do). If you listen to Mancini's comments, however, he's saying we need young players who can step in and play for the first team when needed. Why didnt he give MJ and JG that chance? Other than Boyata, none of our reserves saw much action.

I think it's been fairly well documented why Johnson didn't get a chance. If Johnson is going to get his career back on track he needs to start playing again. His run of injuries is coming into 3 seasons now and fortunately for him he had just signed a big long contract so he'll be well provided for in his life after football if this is the end.

Fans have been very patient but I think it's reached the stage where we realise that he'd be better off in a club that will be better equipped to play him if and when he recovers.

With the season we were having there wasn't a lot of room to give a forward a run of games, especially with Dzeko coming in.
