GuidettI to Twente

According to a Dutch newspaper. Nothing signed yet, but they have an oral agreement.
They claim that he will undergo a medical and sign a four year deal by the end of the week.

Like you and mrs_nool, you mean?

I'd rather it were a loan but I can't say I'm that arsed to be honest in the grand scheme of things.

His contract at City is up. If he were to stay, I think he should've signed a new contract already.

Wish him the best and all that but I am quietly confident the club will somehow soldier on without him.

I dunno, guess it's a relegation battle next season for us.

What do people think regarding compensation? Must be around 2-3 million.

I could be wrong but i don't believe we'll get any compensation.
If i remember correctly, that rule is only valid in transfers between british clubs.

Yeah, I don't think there will be any feeder Club compensation.

I honestly think this is the one we'll end up kicking ourselves for. There's just something about his game that leads me to believe that he will make it to very top eventually.

Having said that, he is still only 18 and feels he needs first team football. Something we clearly can't offer to him right now.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He's clearly a talented lad but I know from comments others (who have watched him regularly) have made that there are some question marks as to whether he has that top, top quality. He's a touch unlucky that he has been at the age at which he is champing at the bit when we have just had a season where we really could not afford to carry a player/take out a guaranteed strike threat to give him game time.

What City should have done is get him out on a season long loan for the past season, somewhere in the PL. We missed the boat on that and we have essentially "wasted" a year of development for him. I can fully understand why he wants to go and play (and IMO this is not comparable with the Sturridge situation)....I can equally though understand why City don't want to sign him up on a contract anywhere near as lucrative as he might get elsewhere (say 10k a week) and then send him out on a 1 year loan (mainly funded by us) as we still have no real idea whether he will cut the mustard as a City player.

Its an unfortunate set of circumstances and timing for me.

Actually, he was on loan in Sweden last summer, and joined the team for preseason training which meant he hadn't really had a break from football for few years now. I think they were trying to save him a bit in first part of the season.

I watched most of his games in Sweden as they were on telly here and he has that something about him that you want to see from a top striker. Obviously still very raw and seems extremely ambitious and even somewhat cocky but I really liked the raw talent. I've seen most Swedish stars playing in Swedish top flight before moving to Europe and I've rarely been as impressed.

But like you said, the way this season went, we didn't really have many games in second half of the season where we could afford to give him time on the pitch so can't really be kicking ourselves because of it.

Didn't he have a loan spell at Burnley, or did I imagine that?

Who's to say the "oral" agreement doesn't include a sell on clause or first refusal, so if he shines we still get the chance to make some cash / buy him back?

at this point he can't be expecting to be starting with tevez dzeko balotelli (potentially a returning adebayor), and any other signings we make.

I think he has talent, and I think he has the potential to be a very good striker. I think if he moves to twente now, he will do very well for himself in the dutch league, but I don't think it will aid his development ... i think it will stagnate. He should be more realistic of his situation ... he should sign a new contract and request a year long loan at the highest level club we can place him and go there and fucking rip up some montherfucking trees.

No sympathy for Dickson Etuhu, Sturridge or Guidetti!

Guidetti has done nothing wrong. We don't play him, ever, he needs to play. Good luck to him.

Agree with Ted to a point as I dont blame Guidetti but lets be honest, if he was all that he'd have been far nearer to the first team than he ever got, and he'd also have bigger fish that FC Twente snapping at him at the moment.

Good luck to the guy but it may be we've just lost another Stephen Elliott - remember him? Similar thing, loads of goals in the reserves, went elsewhere, had a good year at Sunderland in the Championship and then .....

We are now a top 4 club and though I understand Guidetti's wish to play, he was hardly going to figure in our first team plans in the next 2 years. Good luck to him elsewhere.

Didn't he pull the Big Time Charlie speech about a month ago? Offer not acceptable etc? Apols if I'm wrong.

I think he talked about us not being able to guarantee him playing time which for me is fair enough reason to leave.

If I take blue tinted specs completely off and look at this from (confident) young players point of view, I think he is doing the right thing. If he really thinks he can do it in Twente regular basis at the age of 18 (I think he will turn 19 this year) then fair enough. Couple of seasons banging them in there and big clubs will be drooling over him. I think he feels Youth and Reserve team football doesn't have much to offer for him as far as personal developement goes and again, I can't really disagree with that either IF he feels he is ready to take the challenge of playing against grown men. I've said it million of times but even lower level (and let's face it, Twente isn't exactly Rushden & Diamonds) competitive SENIOR football will help you miles more than just playing Youth football. There's world's of difference when physicality and 110% effort come into equation.
