Boateng vs Onuah

Postby Wooders » Mon Jun 13, 2011 11:52 am

Nedum wants to stay - Boeteng wants to go

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_city/s/1423493_nedum-onuoha-is-ready-to-battle-on-at-manchester-city

Keep nedum, sell boeteng, let arsenal sign cahill = we make money for a change

Almost seems to sensible doesn't it ?

I've always felt Ned was under the level required and I saw nothing to convince me otherwise last season. He gets beat in the air too often for me and is prone to lapses of concentration.

Bobby clearly viewed Boyata as a better back up option last season and I don't see that changing.

It's understandable that people want him to stay, he came through the ranks and is a blue, but I don't think we can afford for either of these reasons to be factors in our decision making on our playing squad. I'm not saying that these are your reasons, wooders, I just think that his background and afinity with the club lead to inflated opinions of his ability.

Pretty much was Cityger said. I've always liked Ned but where we are now sentiment needs to go out the window if we are to progress further imo.

Could this description also fit Boateng and, if played in his 'correct' position at centre back, would he be any better than Nedum ??

Perhaps the solution is to sell them both ??

If we are serious about dining at the top table in football, Im afraid Onouha (nice lad and all that) can't be part of it.

Decent Prem player but not one who would feature for any of the Champs Lge sides. Jack of all trades defender but sadly master of none.

As for Boateng, I rate him as a centre half long term but if he wants to go then bollocks to him, though he goes on our terms and in a deal that suits us, not just because he wants out.

Nedum has to be the most awkward footballer I've ever seen. He never looks comfortable even when passing a ball a few yards.

Richards is fine at CB anyway, I'd have him there before Boateng.
Boateng can fuck right off, the fucking nob, who the fuck does he think he is?
Bayern may be a bigger club right now, but they're in a shitter league, and they didn't even win that!
Fuck off, toodle pip, cheerio, au revior, gutten nacht and lick me out.

my reasons are simple
a) I rate nedum higher than most it seems
b) financial fair play rules
c) homegrown talent rules

I'm down with that.

Also, Chinners, I think SWP SHOULD stay.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Mancini isn't an idiot and it is because he isn't an idiot that we won't be replacing Boateng with Onouha, a backwards step if i ever saw one.

I'm afraid it's bye bye to Nedum.

I think Onouha is a good player, I've always thought he gave a decent account of himself whenever he's played for us, maybe not Champions League quality yet but I wouldnt cringe when I heard his name read out on the team sheet.

I cannot say the same for Boateng.

Where in that article does Ned say he wants to stay??? Great reporting as usual...

I've always liked Ned but the fact is, he isn't good enough for a team wanting to be the best in Europe. His rant about Mancini and City on Soccer AM at the end of the 2009/2010 was still out of order and I think we should get decent money for him whilst we still can.

Boateng was pretty poor when he played last season, although I think he'd be a better centre back than right back. I'd be willing to give him another season but if Bayern offer us more than what we paid for him, I'd be happy to let him go. Also, now he's spouting off about Bayern being bigger and them giving him a better opportunity, let's get rid if we can.

My comparison of the two:

---------------- Boateng -------Onuoha
Passing ------- Rubbish -----Rubbish
Pace ---------- Mediocre -------Best asset
Strength-------A big fairy -----Strong, but not nasty enough
Tackling -------Bobbins -------Good
Positioning ----Poor -----------Poor
Centre Half ----Yes ---------Yes
right back -----Yes -----------Yes
injury prone ----Yes ------------Yes
Home Grown ---No -------------Yes
Current Value --£12m+ --------£6m
Wants to stay? -No ------------ Maybe

So, should we keep the worse one who wants away and is worth more, or the cheap better one, who's also homegrown?

So, the 'better one' is half the price? And would be even cheaper if you consider the englishness. What kind of folly is that?

Can't imagine we'd get more than £6m for Nedum, but we want at least what we paid for Boateng from Bayern. Regardless of price, I'd keep Nedum.

If we wanted to buy him from Sunderland rather than vice versa we'd be looking at over 10 million

Nedum is a far better player than most on here are giving him credit for, and for my money as good if not a better bet than we have seen from Boateng as far as playing for the team goes.

I certainly would lose no sleep if we keep him, being confident he would give 100% on the pitch, with his best years still to come.
