We all know Tevez's performances and committment on the pitch can never be questioned and as for Roberto Mancini, we should be building a statue of him outside Eastlands for ending our 35 year wait for a trophy, not to mention earning our highest place finish in the league since 1976-77 season

Actually, this made me think the complete opposite- the story's made me wonder whether this occasionally happens as kind of a 'gentlemen's agreement' between friends as a bit of a money-spinner. If it didn't get out too far, or the bets were small enough, it wouldn't raise so much attention, as which team kicks off is pretty much a 50-50 decision (although can be determined beforehand with ease), and players could be more easily coerced, as it barely affects the outcome of a match, unlike cards, own goals, missed penalties and suchlike.
