Pre season training

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Pre season training

Postby Curlie » Mon Jun 27, 2011 2:16 pm

Not expecting it to start for maybe a fortnight but who knows when the senior squad report back.
I seem to remember Mancini wanted and we don't always get what we want, to have made all his signings by the time pre season started.
If he is still on that timeline, we should see some City transfer movement next week.
City are coming to get you!

I'm not sure, but I think 4th or 5th July has been bandied about on here.

Is it me and am I being pessimistically neurotic because I've got a sinking, nagging, nauseating feeling that City are going to end up getting no-one of note in the transfer window, whilst all and sundry around strengthen their teams, leaving us with virtually the same squad as last season, to challenge for honours in the new one.

Don't know how we'd fare if that were the case.

Well it's certainly a quieter start to the window than we all probably envisaged, Roberto included, but it's still early and I'm quite sure that by August 31st we'll be very content with our lot

Any team selling to City become a clever team.

Drag it out, get an extra £10 million.

We have over paid for nearly every signing so far, but, thats just the way it is.

I know, Ted; but it just feels that the world and his wife are all buying with unconcerned abandon, The Scum are spending dollops of cash they don't have and now Arsenal and Liverpuddle are supposedly fighting over the carcass of Juan Mata, whilst we're sat here unable to off load the surplus units largely brought in by Spews, whilst getting bogged down with our own acquisitions.

Think I'll have to cheer myself up by playing my Leonard Cohen CDs.

Wait until you see Douglas starting a thread ... it will then be safe to assume they've reported back.

I really think our targets are already in the bag,i think we have been deliberately quiet so as not to tip any other clubs off.

Doesn't the international transfer window only officially begin on Friday? So we can't actually sign anyone from abroad till then, admittedly other teams do some pre-signature announcements but that's never been our MO

I'd still be confident of bettering this season with the same squad. Get Ade and Bellers back in as cover and we'd be fine.

I think we started to see the seeds of Mancini's plan grow towards the end of the last season when the likes of Yaya, Silva, Dzeko, Mario and so on all started to settle in. Didn't we win 9 out of the last 10? It was the most dominant spell i've seen us have in years.

I see absolutely no reason why that form couldn't continue into next season. We were a MUCH better team at the end of last season than we were at the start. Another summer and pre-season to blend, with a couple of decent additions (even if its just two squad players in Cerci and Clichy) and we'll be even stronger..

Yeah United have signed some players, but do you honestly think that if De Gea had been in goal, and Ashley Young on the pitch, in that semi-final it'd have made any difference? Would it fuck. At the same time Arsenal are signing people, but they're not pushing forward really. They'll be same old same old. Chelsea will be interesting under AV-B....not arsed about Liverpool. They've signed Henderson...lul....Spurs? They're not gonna sign anyone better than who we sign.

Genuinely got nowt to be scared of.

I really don't get this whole "we're not buying anyone, everyone else is" rubbish. It's only the media going on about who other clubs are buying but nothing major has happened.

Look at what's happened so far:
Arsenal - no one
Chelsea - no one
Liverpool - a ridiculously overpriced Henderson and no one
United - a ridiculously overpriced Jones, Ashley Young (who we didn't want) and De Gea (we already have the best keeper in the league)
Spurs - Friedel (see De Gea comment)

If the squads stayed as they were now, we would be in that title race, no question. Since we've been taken over by the Sheikh, we go about our business quietly and announce things when we're ready. That's how it is and how it should be done. Just don't believe all the media rubbish and wait until City announce it themselves.

Exacccctly...and it seems we're close to signing Nasri :) ....and Clichy, who though not amazing, will do well for us. Better than Kolarov imo.

Don't know how we'd fare if that were the case.

Would not be dissapointed at all.

We don't need any 'big' signings. We have the core of a great team and players like Silva, Johnson, Balo are only gonna get better. Aswell as a solid defence.

We only really need a couple pacy wingers really. Don't need wholesale changes.

i think they'll give them a week after that as well so it would be early Aug at the latest.

On one hand it's totally ridiculous, but on the other hand i'm really really stoked for the Copa America, which starts today. Really looking forward to some goddam football.

Are you ready for some football?

cheers
