Very sad, whoever comes, whoever goes, none will have earned more respect and thanks than Mike Doyle.
RIP, Mike a true City legend

It makes me sad.

I can remember the fans protesting outside the ground, and giving Mick a hard time (he had to fight his way through as I remember) when Marsh was stripped of the captaincy and it was given to him.

How he won those idiots over though.

Great, great man. An over-used phrase, but certainly not in this case.

Mike Doyle the creator of many blues, I can remember sat in the Kippax on the 261 on the Tunnel, next to the away fans 11yrs old.
In the days when pissed up blus would sing songs on the spur of the moment . Do you Wanna be in Mikes gang sprung up within 5 mins the whole Kippax were at it, Great player R.I.P

Sadly never capped enough by the National team. If England had more players like Doyle now, they wouldn't be exiting tournaments so quickly.

I thought he got 5 caps for England?

Exactly....not enough IMHO

He was the kind of footballer who played for a club he supported, a rare thing now. At Old Trafford once he supposedly paused in taking a corner kick to wipe his nose on the flag, and I have vague memeories of him going in the nets against Leicester City when the goalkeeper got injured and then letting one in. He was a hard man and as his family say in the M.E.N. article he made his own choices about things, buggering up his liver and dying younger than he should have. Bit of hypocrisy on here though from people who've often had a go at George Best for doing the same thing - better to remember the talent and forgive the human errors, for both men.

RIP Mick.

He went to the same primary and secondary school as me and my mates and he embodied everything about being a True Blue. He loved the Blues and detested those devilworshippin, rag bastards. Can't say fairer than that. Ranks alongside the likes of Tony "Skip" Book. We always felt confident with him in our team and that says a lot given our history. Black armbands for the first game of next season are a must.

Fuckin love you Mick!!!

In my early years Nelly was my hero,That was untill March 7th 1970 my dad took me for my 8th birthday present to Wembley and when Mick scored the equaliser he instantly became my new hero. He has remained my all time City idol since that glorious day epitomising everything that is City both as a player and a fan.
I also had the good fortune to meet the man himself one day in Blackpool when he was working for Slazenger as my mate worked in the golf shop and phoned me one day to tell me he was in I shot down there and on entering the shop fell to my hands and knees bowing to the great man the whole shop thought I was some fucking nut job.

Thanks for the memories Mike R.I.P

Didn't know he was ill so was shocked to hear he'd died.

Another of the greats gone. A true blue who loved the club as much as he hated the rags. He was like a stick of Blackpool rock - break him in half and you'd find the words "Manchester City". Deepest sympathy to all his family. As his sons said "to us he was just dad" but I'm sure they also realise just how special he was to all the fans and I hope that gives them some comfort.
RIP Mike.

Like everyone else this knocked me sideways when I heard, true legend and one of the few players that actually embodied our new fangled latin slogan long before the marketing bods dreamt it up. He really took great pride in battling for the blue cause and will be greatly missed. I'd also hope that he was well enough to enjoy the semi and final results, if anyone deserved to feel the 35 years of hurt and pain released then Mike did. When the We Dream of Wearing The Shirt banner flew I thought of Mike, he played like I dream. RIP Legend

Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.
