Roberto Di Matteo to Chelsea

Thats a very shrewd move by Villas-Boas, a former player of the club and a former premiership manager to come in as 1st team coach. I would have thought Di Matteo would be looking for another managerial role and not to play second fiddle.

Thought it was harsh that WBA sacked him last season, but I guess they were validated by the position Hodgson took them to.

Di Matteo can't really lose if he goes to Chelsea though - high wage, back in the spotlight, will be the likely successor if Villas-Boas fails there and can leave in a year if another decent team asks him to manage them anyway.

That's a great move. Knows the Premier League, the lower leagues & knows Chelsea. I thought he did a great job with WBA. Just because he didn't choose to stick ten men behind the ball & play 'solid' safety first football & chose to concentrate on attacking first he's ended up out of a job.

From Chelsea's perspective, it's a great appointment. He'll help the new manager familiarise himself with English football and will be able to pass on both his experience as a player and a manager.

From Di Matteo's perspective, I'd have thought he'd want to remain as a manager, as opposed to somebody's assistant. I thought he was generally held in high regard, unless the offers haven't been that forthcoming since he left West Brom. Perhaps he has a clause in his contract that allows him to move on should he receive a good offer from another club to become their manager???

From Chelsea's perspective, it's a great appointment. He'll help the new manager familiarise himself with English football and will be able to pass on both his experience as a player and a manager.

From Di Matteo's perspective, I'd have thought he'd want to remain as a manager, as opposed to somebody's assistant. I thought he was generally held in high regard, unless the offers haven't been that forthcoming since he left West Brom. Perhaps he has a clause in his contract that allows him to move on should he receive a good offer from another club to become their manager???

From what I read from foriegn journo's and not the arse lickers that work in the British tabliods who champion the guys who are they are really friendly with is that he completely lost the WBA players and his coaching methods are at best questionable. I love how our media big up the likes of Martin Jol, Chris Houghton as top managers. There's no proof of this. Lot's of evidence they are nice blokes and get on great with the media.

I really don't think we, or any top club work like that. Minor role yes but he's been put right at the heart of the team.

Ancelotti Scholari,Mouriniho, in such a short period. All winners all shown the door under very odd circumstances, AVB gone within 12 months Roman gone within 18months. Cheslsea gone , Wimbeldon/wiped out waiting to happen IMHO.
