Had very little to do with him. He spent the majority of his second season sitting on the bench.

He's peaked years before.

2nd season him etoo and messi scored 100 goals between them. 3rd season he spent mainly on the bench after pedro came through. Whether he was past his prime or not 7 trophies is still some achievement

Say what?

OK, Upson at Arsenal = parked on the bench (if lucky, cant get a game)

Moves on ... signs for Brum...becomes Prem Regular... gets England caps ..... gets big money move to Wet Spam ... gets more England caps... plays in World Cup ..... trousers big salary ...... - its not too hard to see that things improved for him about 200% after he left Arsenal's reserves is it?

Geezer on Bluemoon printed a table of stats comparing Clichy with Cole, Evra, Enrique & Baines & the huge surprise is he comes out pretty much on top of all of them defensively overall. When you consider how wide open Arsenal are & how Chelsea & rags have often been quite dull in recent times, even though stats don't tell the whole story, he must be at least in the same ballpark as them.

Stuff like 110 interceptions compared to 51 by Ashley Cole. 81% tackle success rate compared to 67% from Cole etc etc. It's hard to criticise him defensively (as I did!) looking at those stats.

On the downside, it would appear he's fucking useless going forward by comparison. Baines is spectacular attacking compared to the others.

Clichy gets masses of unfair criticism.

Some interesting info, but what constitutes a defensive error in that table? I bet all those players had more than 1 or 2 all season. Just think about positional errors, offside trap fuckups etc.

Still, interesting.

For him and his Sherman, of course.

But, before we we get carried away, he was '2nd division' when BCFC sold him (to us).

And he's nobody's captain now......

Clichy having a Medical..... looking at arsenal comments on some boards and they are genuinely not arsed and think he cost the valuable points last season with this attacking all the time and leaving gaps!! Hmmmm I thinks its a good litmus test to see how the clubs fans we are buying from take it when it is rumoured. I remember thinking we did good in getting Danny Mills, but my mate who was a Leeds fan thought they got the best of the deal.... how right he was!

I am a little nervous about this one TBH, I thought it was a good deal (in fact I still do if the price is £7m), but I wanted a top notch left back and Arsenal fans seem happier to have Gibbs as they think he would have been ahead of Clichy for a starting place this season anyway.

I understand what you're saying but if a player doesn't want to play for your club anymore, turns down a new contract and moves to one of your rivals, it's unlikely many fans will be praising him.

Many people on here slagged Tevez off when he wanted to leave and were saying we were a better team without him when he was out through injury. That just wasn't true.
