One of the few things I regret never getting to ask my estranged Dad before he died was about what games I got to as a lad at Maine rd. All I remember is the atmosphere, the stadium and the bloody bannanas, individual games are lost in time. I do remember impersonating White and Quinn in the back garden, but sadly I cannot point to a game and say that was my 1st.
Tracking back is overrated.

That wasn't my first game...my first game was around 1981/82 when I was 8/9

Just picked this team because it was when I started to go regularly with friends without supervision ;-)

This is about my first full recollection of a team as well. Sitting on wooden benches in what would be now block 121 or where Platt Lane met the Main stand. My old fella used to get 4 pints at the start and 4 pints at half time. Drinking watching the match...how times have changed.

Posh sod in the Platt Lane End, we had to dodge the opposing fans darts in the Kippax, good fun throwing them back though!! :-)

What a great side that was, I was also a posh sod as I sat on those lovely woodworm ridden platt lane seats. We was sat right behind the goal and close enough to the front to hear the great Mike Doyle bawling at everyone who he thought wasnt pulling their weight.

In fact that was the best team since our present one.(imo)

My first City Heroes that I can remember are the likes of Rosler, Walsh, Curle, Quinn, Kinkladze, Flitcroft, Burridge, Coton etc.....

The only reason Burridge is in there, is because at my second game we were playing Newcastle and he was in our stand signing a few autographs when Coton got injured, and I remember him saying that he had to go, and a couple of minutes later he was on the pitch, he even kept a clean sheet.

First match was against sheffield united, we were losing 0-2 at half time but we ended up winning 3-2..... good times!!!

I've got that picture frame and signed by everyone on it except for Paul Moulden. It was sorted for me by Roy Bailey - who also organised for me to have a stadium tour and meet the players. It was when i was 8 and before a match against Shrewsbury around xmas '88 - my first match -pretty sure it finished 3-3 and Hinchcliffe scored direct from a corner

I don't remember too many games from my youth...especially not as a small kid though I do have snippets of my early teens

Remember we beat Ipswich at home...I think it was 4-1?...Dalien Atkinson was playing for Ipswich and was their only decent player

I remember being in the top right corner of the Kippax and it was jumping

For the entire game we were all pogoing to the song

'Mel Machins blue white army'

Was such a good atmosphere...happy days
