Who was captain second half? Assume it was vinny in the 1st.

That would have been a hell of a trick considering he only played the 2nd half.

Shaunie looked great on that. Kompany had bit of a shocker.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Weiss has got to sort himself out now, he has the raw ability, pace, skill, a full season at Rangers, sure some injuries but plenty of game time.

He needs to step up, he is surrounded by quality players, surely their experience will rub off on him and and we will have a diamond player on our hands. Perfect competition for AJ. Near 60 games this season, Weiss can start 20 of them without question if he makes the 25.

What a beauty from Shaunnie. Maybe is premature, but Gael can be that crosser that we were lacking. He provided a lot of balls for Dzeko.

This match showed just how important De Jong is to our side. What a difference he makes. The first half we had structure, flow and direction. In the first half we hunted in packs to get the ball, then we won the ball we did something constructive with it. First half, top notch.

The second half was a dog's breakfast. Although we were technically superior we lacked the structure De Jong supplies. They found a way to create chances and actually bossed the second half. When we had the ball we understandably lacked the cohesion to properly create the quality chances. It wasn't until Yaya went on one of his trademark runs that we looked to properly threaten.

I was impressed with McGivern, Clichy, Dzeko, Sweeeeeeep, Vlad, De Jong, Lescott, Taylor, Micah, Superjaw.

Mancini jnr is out of his depth and needs to disappear from our squad sharpish.

Compared to last season, 100% better in preseason mode. Not that it means anything. Right Carl?

Agree with all the above.

I think of all the players though Clichy, Dzeko and Vlad shined the brightest for me.

Vlad especially looks a lot better than a year ago, the stint at Rangers seems to have done him the world of good.

Dzeko look well sharp in that 5 minute clip. Ibrahomivic-esque.

Who the fuck is Vessell?

It's Vesseli, I'm sure you knew that. I don't know either but he looked the part.

He's Swiss, and has apparently captained them at u17's level - other than that I don't know anything about him.

I didn't watch it. I've just seen that 5 minute clip and a fella with Vessell (or Vesseli) on his back celebrating the 2nd goal. Rings no bells whatsoever.

EDIT: Just looked again and it clearly says 'Veseli'

How old is he now? And what is he, a right back? (I'm obviously ignoring your claim to know fuck all about him, and working on the assumption that you saw the match)

I think he's 19 - and a defender, positions don't really mean much to Bob to be honest so not sure where he likes himself to be played. I didn't get to see the match, was going to watch it on ESPN this morning at 10 but Freeview ESPN don't broadcast at that time (they still charge full sodding subscription though)

He had a good game and was very good holding up play to bring team mates into the game.

Anyone know the story with Denis Suarez? I see he tweeted yesterday that he wouldn't be able to play as the transfer had not yet gone through. When is that going to happen?

I was a big fan of the "kick it long to the tall guy" routine they had going with Dzeko. I'd be very pleased if that became a thing. I'm still learning the game, but when Slim mentioned that Weiss was trying too hard to do too much, that made me think "trying to impress to win a spot." All I have is American football for reference though.

I watched the whole match and Doomys take on events is pretty much spot on..Dzeko had some great moves and swp played one of his best games Ive seen for a while. The new defender Savic, played safe as he could, as in back to the keeper most of the time he received the ball !!!...didnt seem to do anything with it imo.
Guidetti had a cracker that hit the post but did not see much of him the whole match....Mancini played (apparently) and not much else to add to Doomys post.

The CA defense was a fuckign shambles but SWP scored a cracker that noone could stop.

I will say that whoever was marking SWP couldn't take advantage of the fact that he's two feet tall. He was able to receive plenty of passes through the air without much trouble.
