I always thought Caton would have made an even better midfield player.

David White.

I also remember Andy Hinchcliffe scoring direct from a corner in my first game at Maine Road, Shrewsbury 2-2 I think, so he was a bit of hero for a while after that.

Loved White, though. I'm sure he was in construction and a bit of a porker last time I saw him.

Probably Nicky Reid bombing down the right side from full back. You wouldn't want to get in the way.

Niall Quinn seems like a popular one, my first favourite too. One of my most memorable dreams from my childhood was Quinn making a miraculous return from injury to play in the game I was going to the next day (I didn't get to many games when I was a young kid as the rest of the family weren't that into it back then)

Hinchcliffe, why the hell did we sell him? I remember sitting there wondering WHY when I was watching Everton be the most dangerous team in the league from set plays and I had to listen to Andy (with hair) Gray waxing lyrical about his delivery and undefendable corner taking.

Loved the sight of him dancing down the line, jinking in and out of defenders. If Johnson can get as good as him we would have a player. Bumped into Barnsey a few times now at the stadium......not literally of course, cos I can still drop my shoulder and avoid bumping into people.

Barnes for me aswell.I think its why I like our SWP so much now.Hope we keep him.

Funny how you see something as kids and then go out onto the park to try and replicate how to do it. I got a text from my lad yesterday asking me if I had seen Balotelli's 360 shot against LA Galaxy and he said he is off to the park to try and master it. I expect to see a few bruises by the time I get home this weekend.

Mike Doyle and Dave Watson for me. Played centre half for the school team and used to watch the two of them and see how they moved, marking, off-the-ball, positioning.

Anyone remember Big Dave's "meat" header v Ipswich? For me, it is the yardstick by which all headed goals are judged.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

My first pair of gloves were snidey rip offs with Alex Williams' name on them, I wanted to be a keeper until High School. I thought he was ace even though I couldnt remember a single performance of his?

Likewise.
I would sulk like fuck if I couldn't wear the number 8 shirt for our Sunday team even into my late thirties.

Ditto No 8 shirt was always a must, I can remember one of the fist things my dad bought for me outside Maine Road was a City Rosette with a Black & White Photo of Colin set in it. I bet they don't sell many of those in the City store.
Also Martin Buchan will always be the biggest Twat in football IMAO.

Colin Bell. But he later got competition from Rodney Marsh. Although we won the league cup, the loss of those two in the same season was the difference between City winning everything & winning nothing in the following years imo.

Met him at a recent golf charity event - great bloke and just chatted like any football fan

.............. just embarrassed myself that evening by - thinking ".............is that Alex?........" then asking the guys next to me at dinner............"That chap you were just talking to - is that Alex Williams?" - they confirmed it was - but my emarrassment was complete a few mins later when my mate pointed out that the chap I had asked (to avoid me embarrassing myself) was Brian Horton - who obviously was expecting me to recognise him

Yeah, but he only scored a half-dozen or so for us. Not sure whether I saw one of them before I became endeared to Walsh.

I met Walsh when he was playing for Portsmouth after leaving us, after Pompey v Crystal Palace, on New Year's Day (1996?- I know Palace won 3-2). I think he was the first footballer I ever spoke to.
