From 2003 (first season at the Etihad stadium) to present

Postby city9_4eva » Tue Jul 26, 2011 3:18 pm

was watching the 2003-04 season review dvd today and I still cannot believe how far we have come! our starting line up went something like this...... Seaman, Jihai, Sommeil, Distin, Tarnat, Wright Phillips, Reyna, Bosvelt, Sinclair, Anelka, Fowler
with other players Sibierski, Fowler, Dunne, Mcmanaman, Wanchope etc etc
And i believe we finished 17th or 16th that season with a massive relegation scare, Dickov missing a penalty for Leicster and the game finished 1-1 was crucial to us staying up, then Wanchope scoring agaisnt Newcastle to beat them 1-0 to confirm us staying up.
From that to now!! wow! Unbelievable. And there was some fans wanting Mancini out and saying were not doing well and should be doing better etc should hang there heads in shame now! my Dad being one of them fans, all i kept telling him was look where we were 6 years ago, battling relegation!!
Now FA Cup Champions and Champion's League football!
Cant wait for the new season! BLUE MOON!

That wasn't even bad season video. Plenty happening. Try that last season under Pearce. I lost will to live watching it even now.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Probably, as a teen, maybe two feet or so? It felt like an achievement. Now, it's all basically a prisoner of gravity.

I remember getting excited when we got a mention on a footy show. Now, we're the headline act. Last night, I watched a show where there were two City stories before Chelsea got a mention.

That season was my lowest point as a City fan (yes even worse than when we were relegated to the old Division 2). I was so close to not renewing my season ticket cos the football we played was that bad - thankfully I did renew and the season after we were taken over by Shinawatra and the rest is history

I know it's crazy, our squad could be this come the start of the season: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, De Jong, Yaya Toure, Nasri, Silva, Balotelli, Aguero. And possibly Tevez if he stays.

Quite different from the team city9_4eva posted from the 2003-04 season. Still can't believe how good it is to be a City fan right now.

Absolutely.
Now I dearly love football in all it's forms and it's not always joga bonito and I do understand it's results business but there simply was no need for that crap under Pearce. Every time we went one down I KNEW that was it. And by "knew" I don't mean "this is typical city yada yada" moaning while secrectly hoping for equaliser or even winning the game but genuinely mind numbing feeling knowing the game was over regardless whether it was 10th or 89th minute. Even the games we won felt pretty shite. None of the buzz I always have got from City games before and since.

Being shite was nothing new to any of us. Even when team is shite you are looking for those odd entertaining moments. There simply was none of that. And it's not like we played some errorfree superefective German football. We were still shite. Shite but not in least bit funny way. And tactically we were all over the place, it's just that Pearce instructed nine men behind the ball win, lose or draw.

Simply spirit crushing stuff.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
