The Mad Hatter, NYC

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The Mad Hatter, NYC

Postby s1ty m » Tue Aug 02, 2011 1:48 pm

Spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening in this establishment and I can highly recommend it. Apologies for the appalling photography, but the pitchers of ale take their toll. I highly recommend a pitcher from this place, it is probably the only reasonably priced alcohol, in NYC. If you've not been to NYC, go. It's unbelievable. We had 10 days there.

Michael, the Landlord and owner, has created a really cracking pub and it is stuffed with City shirts and other memorabilia. I saw all the recommendations on here and checked it out. Well worth it. The YT video is worse than the pictures.

Great music too.

In the fifth picture down, that's a right pair of earrings that the young lady is wearing; they're almost a danger for low flying aircraft.

Nice picture of 'Big Mal' on the wall behind her.......happy days.

let me get this straight
you had 10 days in New York New York and spent three nights in a City pub?

Indeed. 3 nights in that bar. It was by far the best one we found and was a 5 dollar cab ride from the Grand Hyatt on 42nd Street. The Subway is great, but not necessarily for The Mad Hatter. 4 games at Yankee Stadium, daft amounts of cash spent on clothes and food, great hotel right above Grand Central, Broadway show (Jersey Boys, truly awesome). I tell you, NYC is like nowhere on the planet. It's my 3rd visit and I am still in a state of awe. Already planning to go again. The plkane thing is really weird thopugh;, I have no idea where Monday and Tuesday went and I am still lagged in an odd way. Only 6 and a half hours back, but you add on 5 when you land and a day somehow seems to vanish.

On a side note, July is not the time to visit, I discovered. It was 107 degress when we landed a week last Friday. 1 0 fucking 7. Stayed around 95 all week. Appalling humidity, aircon everywhere though, even on the Subway trains, thought eh stations are like fucking ovens.

Glad you had a great time here in New York, The Hatter is the only place to be for the games, all the ex pats come out, and it's like being in a Manchester pub. I agree Michael, the landlord is a true gent, even though he is a Liverpool fan!!

The weather is an issue, you came on the hottest week for years, and it's still in the 90's this week. One thing you are guaranteed, is hot summers!
Anyway, hope you make it back here soon. I came over 3 years ago, for 3 months, ended up getting married, and I'm still here. Love it!

It's a long way down there for me anyway, that's the main thing. But McC's isn't a rag bar as such, saw a couple of obnoxious scum fans there (Yanks) but also decent Spurs & Arsenal, and the owner was a grand bloke, ex-Gaelic FAA. (And don't go capitalizing '"rag", it gives them more than they deserve.)
