Spanish contributors... Don't worry!

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Spanish contributors... Don't worry!

Postby Manx Blue » Wed Aug 10, 2011 7:19 pm

Rick Stein's trip around Spain was on tonight, and it had Lad in Extramadura turning chilli's in the local barn. He was wearing our purple Tommy Cook's away from 2008. Stein said the region was Sparsely populated, so I'm wondering if Garrido was from this region?? I know he was bought from Soceidad, and lil Dave is from Gran Canaria... Or have I missed someone??

Cheers!

Cheers AT. This Extramadura is to the west/ SW of Madrid, and appears to be close to the Border with Portugal. Strange but also nice to see him wearing the colours for whatever reason.

No! I'm nearly sure he was Georgian, which was part of the old Soviet Union.

You know I watched all that series and never even noticed he was wearing that. It's good. But having said that the series got more boring and self-indulgent as it went on, especially that last one, Extremadura and Andalucia, which really should've been the best. The Trujillo bit was good.

He gets so excited about the least food trivia. Can't knock him for trying to pronounce place names but it's pretty comical, notably 'Extra Madura' in this programme, but he seems to get every one just a little bit wrong! Some of history is a bit off too - EG: "ALL the Conquistadores came from Extremadura" - and bizarre statements like "Spain is almost a classless society", which is about as far from the truth as you can get - they even spent 3 years killing each other just to maintain it! He seems to be fed little bits of info and as we know - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Manxy - most of Spain is sparsely populated once you get away from the main cities. Extremadura is always quoted as such but there are vast areas where you see nothing but fields, crops or emptyness, all over the place, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla y Leon, Andalucia, Comunidad Valenciana, Galicia, Aragon, La Rioja, inland Catalunya...... That's what makes it so appealing. Living in crowded England - and even for me in the far south west - it's a welcome change.

We were in Southern Extremadura last September and I can certainly recommend it - food, history, wildlife, emptyness, culture. But take your phrase book!

For me I think he has got better now he is doing less fish.
I don't like fish,it tastes to fishy.
And this part of Spain where I am they don't like hot food from what I have been able to find.I either have to go to Alicante supermarket to get chilli or get loads when I go to UK.The sports shops here don't have any city tops so where that lad got it from is a mystery to me

There's a couple of shops down at the bottom end of Gran Vía in Madrid (towards Banco de España/Cibeles end) where you can get the shirt of pretty much any well-known side. They're on what used to be on my daily walk from the Palace Archives to the National Library. Ahhhh Madrid.
