Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted Samir Nasri is happy at the club and says any deal for his possible departure is nowhere near being done.

Nasri had been expected to complete a move to Manchester Citybefore reports emerged on Saturday that the transfer had fallen through.

Wenger selected Nasri in the Arsenal starting XI for the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool and after the match refused to be drawn on the latest stories surrounding the midfielder, saying he did not know if talks had broken down.

The Gunners manager has now declared that no deal is imminent and indicated that Nasri may yet remain at the Emirates Stadium.

"He is happy here. There is no departure of Nasri at the moment," Wenger told French media outlet TF1.

"Maybe one day, but it's far, far, far from being done."

Nasri's departure would leave the Gunners severely undermanned in midfield after Cesc Fabregascompleted his protracted move to his hometown club Barcelona last week.

To add to Wenger's problems he is also without Alex Song and Gervinho due to suspension while Emmanuel Frimpong, who made his starting league debut on Saturday, will also serve a ban after he saw red against Liverpool.

Mind games, or is it time to move on?

Breaking News: Roberto Mancini has stated after Manchester City's 3-2 victory over Bolton that he hopes Samir Nasri will join the club in the next 24 hours. More to follow.

I think it is all mind games..........

Fuck me ! We're on the verge of signing a much sought after attacking midfield player to add to our already glittering squad and you lot can't have a bit of patience ?

You actually deserve us to be chasing the likes of Riera and Musampa.

His reply was "... in the next days." and he repeated it when the interviewer assumed he meant 24 hours. He's talking about before the end of the transfer window.

If it's the Sky interview then he also said he "hopes", not that he "will"

Normally, I'd say that was bloody stupid, but a rested player who we can save for domestic games might be a good move.

Not a £23 million good move, mind.

Should knock a few million off the asking price if that's the case.

We need to get it sorted soon and can see it happening well before Arsenal's game against Udinese. Wenger won't give 2 monkey's about the move and if needed he will play him.

Losing 20 mil is nothing compared to falling out of the CL and Wenger knows the importance of the CL pull.

Fair enough. Bob didn't mention that in the interview I saw, just said we have 10 days. If Wenger wants to go against the board here is his chance if Nasri is still there.

I dont think Arsenal would play him in a CL game if theyre intending to sell. I certainly don't think the decision will be left with Wenger.

Same, if its gonna happen it'll happen before Arse play Udeni.

yea, after bolton and before arsenal's clash with udinese.

on a side note...if he does play for Arsenal vs. udinese and they lose, he will still be able to play for us. but if they win and he cant, do people on here think that we should still buy him, but at a lower price?

I think that the rules are if Arsenal win or lose and he plays any part, he will be illegible for us.

No mate, Phips id right. If he plays and they get knocked out then he is free to play in the CL for another team. If they win, he's not eligible.

FIFA Rule 18.07, I think.

Cap doffed in you're direction phips, totally didn't know that. I thought you could if you'd played in the uwaffer thing but not the same comp. I trust we can then sign and play Modric in the FA cup once we've knocked them out in the 3rd round?

I don't know about the FA cup but for CL and EL if a team is in the qualifiers (like Arsenal in the CL or Fulham in the EL) and that team plays a player (ex: Nasri) and that team gets knocked out in the qualifiers (ex: Arsenal lose to Udinese) any player that they sell to a team in the same competition (Nasri to Man City, who is also in the same competition) can play that player in that competition. Where the line is drawn is over qualifiers vs. the "proper competition"; once the latter begins and a player plays in it then they're ineligible for another team in the same league.

I have a sneaky feeling that the departure of Tevez is conditioned by the transfer of the frenchman. I think if Nasri won't come, Tevez is not going anywhere.

To be honest if he thinks his agents are worth 3M, or 1M, or anything more than about 10 grand for doing a bit of simple negotiation - surely the hard bit was between Arsenal and City - then he can pay them himself or piss off. I'm with Cooky on this one, if reports are to be believed!
