Just when you thought the media couldn't get any worse, this is published. Matt Lawton you really are a twat!!!

Arsenal agree £24m Nasri fee with City, United stand by to hijack deal
By MATT LAWTON
Last updated at 11:28 PM on 23rd August 2011

Samir Nasri was in the North West last night having a medical after Arsenal finally accepted a £24million bid from Manchester City.
But Sportsmail understands Manchester United were closely monitoring the situation in the hope they might yet be able to hijack the deal, which is also expected to see around £2m going to the France midfielder's agent.
City now look like Nasri's next club and United would struggle to match the £185,000-a-week wages being offered to the player for the next five years.

Arsenal exit: Nasri's time with the Gunners looks to have come to an end
But Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer and might just be able to lure Nasri to Old Trafford with the promise of a central role he had in mind for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder.
Yesterday Arsenal seemed to consider City the more likely destination, confirming a deal had been struck shortly before boarding their plane for Italy.
A statement read: 'Arsenal can confirm that they have agreed terms for Samir Nasri to move to Manchester City. The 24-year-old midfielder has been omitted from Arsenal's squad which flies to Italy to face Udinese.'

Gunned down: Nasri has been one of Arsenal best performers in recent seasons

Nasri had trained with Arsene Wenger's squad yesterday and the Arsenal manager wanted the player with him for tonight's crucial Champions League playoff.
Wenger is already working with a severely depleted squad - only 18 players have travelled. He is also concerned by the temperature here in Udine, which rose to 38 degrees yesterday.
Sportsmail understands Wenger was not entirely happy with the decision to sell when the deal coincided with news of Jack Wilshere's latest injury setback, adding to the sense that the relationship between manager and board is becoming strained.
There are those close to the situation who fear defeat tonight and then at Manchester United on Sunday could leave the Frenchman considering his future.

Its quite amusing how every player we sign apparently "really wanted" to go to Utd/Real/Juventus . We also have the perenial "late bid" threat that doesnt actually exist too.

Mark Ogden of The Telegraph - who's admitted himself to be a United fan - will likely be in tears today, as he was claiming Nasri was nailed on Utd a few weeks ago. He's now running the "Nasri really wanted Utd" etc etc story. I swear some of these journos are on Utd's pay, its that laughable.

Correct me from wrong, but the 3 main players Utd were in for this summer were Sanchez, Nasri and Schneijeder.... and Utd have come up with diddly squat of them. Now, as its Utd the press will say "overpriced" with "no value in the market" and "Utd will focus on their young side," etc etc yawn. Now, if the boot had been on the other foot the press would be full of, in fact has been full of, "Sanchez Snubs City / Nasri snubs City / Schneider snubs City"

So now we have a squad full with players like Nasri (really wanted to go to Utd), Aguero (really wanted to go to Real), Dzeko (really wanted to go to Juve), Silva (really wanted to go to Utd/Real), Milner (was "waiting" for Utd), Barry (really wanted to go to Liverpool), Balotelli( really wanted to go to AC Milan), Ya Ya (really wanted to stay at Barca) ..... anyone see a pattern?

Its no wonder our "team spirit" is so poor because all our squad actually want to be somewhere else!

Interview with Ogden was fucking hilarious; 'oh no we don't follow our childhood allegiences to football teams, we don't care who wins on a Saturday, etc etc etc' I know for a fact this is fucking lies & so does he. Just trying to cover his arse because we can see through his rag licking reports.

These characters have their own teams, then their 2nd team, which is usually rags or Liverpool, then they also take into account the huge number of rags & Liverpool fans there are lurking around this & other countries, so they write stuff which will appeal to them. That stuff, of course, won't be very sympathetic to City.

All the way through this affair Nasri has been reported to be on the brink/going to/really wants to go to/being hijacked by the rags, but in my humble opinion it was never the case, he was always City bound. The Rag Tops can say all they want but Nasri was always coming to us and deep down they know they just haven't got the sway in terms of player pull that they used to; just ask Sneijder.

Incidentally, where do you see him playing? At lot has been said for him coming in from the right or cover for Big Dave whereas I've not heard much about him coming on as the inverted winger, ie. on the left. This is a position that I feel we've been a litte weak in the attacking sense and Nasri could do a gleeming job I feel.

I think yaya/barry's position maybe under threat
Yaya will drop back to barrys box to box position and nasri will occupy yayas current space to work alongside dave

How they play depends on the opponent. For home games against the likes of Norwich etc, we can be more cavalier with the formation but away at Spurs on sunday only Merlin will play with Nasri on the bench.

Come CL weeks you may find Merlin starts on the weds, and Nasri at the weekend with De Jong/Barry/Milner similarly rotating to keep them all fresh.

I can't see Yaya's position being under threat Wooders, Barry's maybe but you couldn't play Nasri and Silva behind each other I don't feel. More switching play and changing from wing to centre to wing.

And Goat, players of the ilk of Silva and Nasri don't want to alternate between games, they want to be out there playing together and probably never want to miss a game. They wouldn't join knowing they're only going to get one game in 2. Rotation, yes, but not at that ratio; possibly one game out in 4 or 5 I'd guess dependant on games.

That's what I'd guess at, too, though I'm still not all that familiar with Nasri despite seeing quite a few games where he's been playing.

Nasri can be quite brittle though and saving him for the A games will be the pitch to him. Looking at the Carling Cup this season, with our squad we have little or no excuse for not doing well in it if we approach it wanting to actualy win it.

Not sure about the brittle bit mate, he made around 130 appearances for Arsenal over 3 years and 55 last season alone. Not bad going by anybodys standard.

Anyway, has he signed yet.

For the record, personally i don't see anyone's position under threat.. pressure from competition at most. I think it is an old school reaction to think like one player in = one player out. Try thinking in player characteristics terms through the squad. They all add something different, there are a lot of combinations and angles there.. hardly one player fits as an exact match for another. Imo this is to City's credit having both acquired different styles of player and perhaps more important appear to encourage players to express their game to its potential.
That is a powerful combination if correct and it shows in a squad of real individual talents. In pick 'n' mix terms Mancini has a lot to play with and a lot of options that can ideally keep the team fresh and full of ideas as the different combinations compete and pan out in style.
As so many of our players can play in different areas and roles the combinations of steel, flair, imagination and power are nearly mindboggling.

I don't know if he will, but imo there is no need for Bob to settle on a favoured first team, common in days gone by. He can comfortably look at what will get a result and what will help develop certain players while experimenting himself on what will outwit and outplay Everton for a fuclin change, (4 days after a CL game).

One thing is for sure....it will be a fucking NIGHTMARE for any opposition trying to guess what our line-up maybe.

Last season Hart, Kompany, Lescott (post dietpillgate), De Jong, Yaya, Barry, Silva, Tevez all pretty much nailed on starters. This season from that list I'd say only Joe and Vincent will start the majority of games. Likelihood is that they'd be joined by Silva and Nigel but I can see all of the team being interchanged per opposition and game plan and in order to maintain the freshness of the likes of Yaya and Barry whose games really suffer when they're not 100%. Nasri gives us the option of resting Silva and not looking toothless and we have no need to now run Carlos into the ground

Amazing incredible times

Good points BBS and Ant and yes, this season, whatever the team, is going to be a good one. With the players we've got now, and the team emphasis, I just can't see how they can fail to impress.
