Yes, he makes opposition look better than they are... I agree.

What he said.

When he signed from Villa, it looked for 5 or 6 games like we had really signed a great player. He played well a Bolton. What happened inbetween? He played well when he signed and when we are signing players who may put him out of the starting 11. He has got what it takes if he gives 100%, doesnt look to me he gives it all for most games.

I could of course be wrong, but I recon Barry will start in the biggest games, well the domestic ones anyway. Not sure about Europe.

i agree with that...when the chips are down in the Prem or a cup match in latter stages...my money would be on Gaz Baz in the starting XI. If he'd come on at HT vs the Rags at Wembley we'd be the proud owners of a charity shield right now....

cheers

Well genius, Nasri was not brought in to sit on the bench, who makes way for him?

there are lots of matches to play sweetheart. It's going to be a meritocracy...folks are going to earn their minutes. Nasri isn't going to be handed a starting role no matter the opposition or the other players available. Surely you know that.

i'm thinking you are on a wind-up...

Ronk mate I simply meant that I presume Yaya will play deeper now Nasri's with us and have less license to go on those famous runs since he'll have more defensive duties. Maybe I'll be proved wrong.

I'm not anti Barry at all; I just think Yaya's a classier player overall and in a big match I'd pick him over Barry every time. There again this site is about opinions and most are giving Barry the thumbs up.

Congratulations on a good thread Ted.

Probably, depends on the game. The thing is that Yaya is so effective at bursting forward that it's not a tactic we can afford to discount entirely. What's the point in having someone who's peerless at a particular tactic, a tactic that can cause havoc and rip teams apart, and then not using it at all?

I think you're probably right about Yaya getting the big games but I reckon in a lot of ways it could be fluid and form week-to-week will decide who gets a shot at what time. In theory, Yaya gets the place, but competition is tough and nothing is decided.

I'm not sure that we can put out overwhelmingly attacking teams in big matches and expect de Jong to protect the defence on his own.

It's a squad game. You fight for your place but you don't play every game.

I think the point wasn't to look at who will start every game, rather if everyone is fit and rested who would be in our starting eleven.

I predict he'll start more than Johnson but less than Silva. :)
Tracking back is overrated.

Not one of my bolder predictions.

Heres one a bit firmer though. I think he'll start as many prem games as Johnson and Milner combined if not more.

I think we lack a closer now Vieira's retired and Barry would fit well into that role. Lots of subs appearances and probably start the 6 away days after the chump's league matches.

Agree in one sense, tho last season I got the impression Mancini wished Paddy had the legs for 90, Gaz Baz does, but will do a similar job in the current system.
