Manchester City lose out to United again as ITV snub Champions League debut
Manchester United's reputation as the biggest draw in English football has been underlined by ITV's decision to show them rather than Manchester City in the Champions League.
Television executives have chosen United's opener against Benfica as their live game on ITV1 next month, even though City's debut in the competition is on the same night.
United traditionally attract the biggest TV audience in the country but the excitement generated by City's £400million spending spree means there will also be plenty of interest in their first Champions League game, against Napoli on September 14.
'A choice had to be made for their opening fixture,' a source said. 'City are in the news a great deal but United have a huge following and their visit to Benfica is a very attractive looking game.'
The Manchester clubs are scheduled to play their six group games on the same night as each other - three on Tuesdays and three on Wednesdays.
Sky Sports will show the Tuesday night games and its multi-channel facility will allow it to show both clubs live at the same time.
ITV has to choose which team to show on its flagship station for its three Wednesday night games. No firm decision has been made for fixtures after the opening ties.
Meanwhile, Paul Scholes will hold talks with manager Sir Alex Ferguson over a coaching role this week. Mail

Rumours that Football pundit Gary Neville requested his Sky bosses to pick City for its batch of games so that he could heap more paise on his former rivals to show how impartial he can be .... have as yet not been confirmed or understood by the media jism giants

Funniest thing I read on Twitter today was a City fan stating "Micah Richards has signed a new contract at Manchester City. He really wanted to join United but City offered far more money"

Or maybe they alternate between both clubs and they'd rather show our second match against Bayern....?

Just a thought!

I always thought that ITV showed the English teams home matches in the early stages. Obviously not or else this is a new turn to bow down to lord baconface.

If we aren't on ITV1 will we not be on ITV2 or 3?

The glamour tie in one group versus 3rd vs 4th pot in ours.

I assume so.

But ITV have NEVER shown United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool on ITV 2, 3, or 4. We are the first team EVER to suffer this 'humiliation'. It most definitely warrants a story in the Mail as we clearly have been snubbed.

We must all have been dreaming when we thought we saw United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool playing on ITV 2, 3 or 4 in the past.

More fine journalism.

Aguero £38M
Nasri £24M
Savic £6M
Clichy £7M
Balotelli £20M
Milner £26M
Dzeko £27M
Barry £10M
Kolo £16M
Lescott £22M
Tevez £25.5M
Silva £26M
Yaya £24M
Kompany £6M
Zabaleta £6.5M
de Jong £16M
Kolarov £16M
Johnson £7M

That's £323M. If we add Roque, Adebayor, Bellamy, Bridge, SWP...well it adds up.

Seem's that I must have got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, having snubbed the other side.
I'm in a right old snubbery mood. I'm hungry but I just don't know what to snub. I want to go out but don't know where to snub.
I just snubbed every other thread in this forum in favour of this one. Now I'm going to give this one a snub too so I can read another.

Read this this morning. Not the original article but attributed to the People. Snubbery in it's greatest Rag form.

Man United snubbed Nasri for double talk
Frenchman reneged on earlier promise to sign for them

Samir Nasri came close to remaining at Arsenal after talks with Manchester City nearly broke down and rivals United snubbed the French international for reneging on an initial promise to sign for them, it has been revealed.

‘The People’ reported that Nasri went cap in hand back to Old Trafford when he feared his £24m move to the Etihad was about to collapse due to a dispute over agent fees.

But furious United chiefs slammed the door in the Frenchman’s face despite him making a personal plea to revive the deal with the champions.

People revealed the full bombshell details of Nasri’s negotiations with both Manchester clubs – as the Frenchman prepares to make his City debut at Tottenham Sunday.

“The French midfielder personally agreed a £7m-a-year deal with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson,” it said.

“We can reveal Nasri is being paid almost £40,000-a-week more at City than he would have earned at United, making a mockery of the player’s claim that his move from Arsenal was for football, rather than financial, reasons.”

Fergie and Nasri reportedly met in Paris during the summer with the player’s representatives in tow and after a deal was thrashed out the player confirmed he was thrilled at the prospect of becoming a United player.

The transfer stalled – and later collapsed altogether – when Nasri’s agents insisted on a massive £4m tax-free as their cut.

United refused to cough up the cash, leaving the way clear for City to make a more lucrative, £9m-a-year offer.

Nasri quickly agreed the terms but then, agonisingly, his switch to the Etihad Stadium also came close to falling through over his agents’ demands.

City were reluctant to pay up and it was at that point that Nasri himself contacted United and tried to reignite his move there.

But the Old Trafford hierarchy, furious at the player’s change of heart, were having none of it.

Unimpressed by Nasri’s agents’ behaviour and the player’s willingness to chase more money from City, they told him in no uncertain terms that they were not interested.

That left Nasri in limbo and he turned out for Arsenal in their 2-0 home defeat by Liverpool.

Only when City later agreed to meet the agents’ demands was Nasri able to complete his move north, according to the report.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

Oh dear. United will be so pleased they pulled out of the deal that would have got them a player they desperately need.
