I have a feeling we might get a wake up call tonight to remind us that teams won't always roll over. Still fancy a win though but a narrow 2.1 with Dzeko and a late Tevez winner

I can imagine Napoli causing problems but I don't think Spurs rolled over though Doug. They played much harder v us than they did at OT & battled to try & get back in the game throughout but still got hammered.

Their strength is in attack, if they defend we will carve them to pieces.

If they leave us any space I expect us to do the same. Watching the way AC played v Barca last night made me think that many of our goals so far wouldn't have been scored if teams had lined up like that against us. It wasn't genius, just 2 banks of 4, close together & very narrow. That's how I'd play at the Etihad if I came with an inferior 11. Make us go wide & see what we've got. Be interesting to see, when someone does do it, if our wide play has improved enough to cash in on it in the way the rags would. If it has; we are the real deal. If not, we have a potential problem.

No. That is the way to minimise barcas options.. as the width is of less value to barca as they have no target height to cross for. So basically it focuses on where they are good and does the best job of blocking them.
City are not in the same boat, with Dzeko and when available Mario. Defences will not be able to sit so narrow v City for that reason alone.
However the general idea is valid for sure, sit and overcrowd the zone at the front of the area.
We did struggle last year against that kind of bus parking, but we have yet to see how well we do now.. I'm more veering towards the idea that City are more unpredictable than Barca with more tricks up their collective sleeves.. but i might be jumping the gun there.

Correct. We beat Spurs 5.1 because we were awesome. I don't really think any team has rolled over against us in the sense they sometimes do at the swamp. I phrased it badly.more that i don't thi nk we will roill them over easily as we have 3 teams this year.

Thinking about the game.. (as if i haven't been for the last 36 hours), one of the key factors for me is that this is only Napos second game.. and i think that on the day this will prove quite decisive. If we are organised and fluent from the off we could put them out of step so much that they simply don't have the sharpness to pull themselves back into it.
If it wasn't their second game i think they would offer a stern test, so it is perhaps a bit of good fortune that our debut is set up like this.
We still have to come out of the blocks on song though, so in predicting i'm going for two options we start unexplicably nervously and allow Napoli to settle and we get a battling 2-1 to us. We start as we mean to go on and we run out 4-0 winners.

I don't get into this predicting the score business - if there was any value in it I'd be down the bookies.

But, we have a chance to send out a big message to the whole of Europe tonight. And if we send it loud and clear it could well prove invaluable in unsettling future opponents before a ball has been kicked.

5-1
Dzeko not to score, but will assist 4. Silva, Aguero x2, Kompany and a late goal by a sub.
