The term 'classical' music is used incorrectly to describe various forms of music but as we're using it here; Zappa is heavily influenced by what you call 'classical' music, indeed performing quite a few versions of such music himself.

He also said 'let's bomb the harbour' referring to gay people whilst playing in San Francisco when many of his audience (who cheered) were gay & at least one member of his band. Frank was a world class wum & many of his comments were designed to provoke.

Divers in Australia have been playing music underwater and recording how sharks react. When AC/DC came on — particularly the band’s hit single “You Shook Me All Night Long” — sharks started acting less aggressive.

I'm a classically trained musician and composer you knob-head (look at my profile, I kid you not).

Comparing pop to 'classical' and saying 'classical' music has produced 10/20 good tunes in 600 years is like comparing Rolf fucking Harris to Van Goch and saying Van Goch came up with one or two decent doodles.

The big difference between you and I is that I can see the value of all kinds of music whereas the word "eclectic" for you probably relates to some kind of fainting fit when you fall down pissed.

It used to be the Trombone and other brass Nooly but I don't perform (acoustically) anymore. I use computer, samplers, soft synths and MIDI keyboards nowadays.

Van was shit.
I don't drink anymore so your falling down pissed dig is inappropriate.
Why is "Pop" called "Pop"?Is it short for popular, meaning a lot of people like it.
The classical community has been marginalized and pushed out of the spotlight, and the people that are still playing classical music are not just providing a means to hear it, but are keeping the genre extant.Cos it's boring.
I've met plenty of people who can play instruments and my son is living with a woman called Carol who composes shit for the BBC amongst her clients so your training doesn't impress me that much.
I want to hear new stuff not boring shit you have been practising for years that stacks of people can do.

sorry ragster, but i don't agree. People still create 'classical' music, and people also cover punk songs. I used to think in exactly the same way as you until i was maybe 19, and first heard glenn gould playing bach's goldberg variations. Timewise, about 30 par cent of the music i listen to now is classical.

Also, of the last 6 concerts/gigs i've been to, two were 'classical'. Both were music i'd never heard before. Of the other 4, at least 3 played cover versions of other bands, and all 4 played stuff i had heard before.l.

I am/was a brass man myself (mainly the trumpet). Not on your level, though, and more jazz then classic.
Nevertheless, I do enjoy some Rimsky-Korsakov, Brahms, etc. every now and then.

Interesting Kladze, I was forced to play the Trombone when I was a kid, think it was a punishment as I had to carry the fucker to school and back each day. It was bigger and heavier than me!

Anyway, I didn't cry at the music as I was still stood outside waiting for my mate to sort his ticket. Wouldn't have cried though, that's for girl's.

This is precisely what people like Rag Hater don't understand.

Without Bach there would have been no jazz - without jazz there would have been no rock and roll, Elvis, The Beatles, etc etc etc.

And just for his benefit, and to prove a point, here's the last ten tracks played by my iTunes

'Legend In My Living Room' - Annie Lennox
'Emotion Sickness' - Silverchair
'Delta Lady' - Joe Cocker
'Analyse' - The Cranberries
'If You Can't Make Me Happy' - Kirsty Almeida
'Variations On A Theme Of Haydn In B Flat Major' - Brahms
'For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her [Live]' - Art Garfunkel
'Dark On Fire' - Turin Brakes
'Chale Chalo (Lagaan)' - A.R. Rahman
'Over You' - Brandi Carlile

A fairly rounded mixture I'd say and over a period of time ranging from 19th century to contemporary - I'll be going to see Ms Almeida live at Band on the Wall next month ffs
