Composed by Handel

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Divers in Australia have been playing music underwater and recording how sharks react. When AC/DC came on — particularly the band’s hit single “You Shook Me All Night Long” — sharks started acting less aggressive.

As I think Mr.Zappa said whens the last time a bit of classical had you freakin out
Its for snobs who think they are being clever.

Ha ha ha, you really are as cultured as you are intelligent.

What a fucking prick he is.

I don't pretend to be something I am not.
All you cultured fans hear classical shit on a few adverts and think you have an understanding of the arts.
Your all full of shit

I'm a classically trained musician and composer you knob-head (look at my profile, I kid you not).

Comparing pop to 'classical' and saying 'classical' music has produced 10/20 good tunes in 600 years is like comparing Rolf fucking Harris to Van Goch and saying Van Goch came up with one or two decent doodles.

The big difference between you and I is that I can see the value of all kinds of music whereas the word "eclectic" for you probably relates to some kind of fainting fit when you fall down pissed.
Van was shit.
I don't drink anymore so your falling down pissed dig is inappropriate.
Why is "Pop" called "Pop"?Is it short for popular, meaning a lot of people like it.
The classical community has been marginalized and pushed out of the spotlight, and the people that are still playing classical music are not just providing a means to hear it, but are keeping the genre extant.Cos it's boring.
I've met plenty of people who can play instruments and my son is living with a woman called Carol who composes shit for the BBC amongst her clients so your training doesn't impress me that much.
I want to hear new stuff not boring shit you have been practising for years that stacks of people can do.
Doofus !

Get back on my foe list - you are its founder member.
I think it's a bit sad that you have to resort to the baby tactic of putting me on your foe list because you cannot argue a point in a civilised manner howevr if ignoring me is easier for you then so be it.
The list you have given for what you have been listening to recently contains nearly all pop.
So a person such as yourself who has been classically trained and has an ear for such things finds most of his entertainment in the form of pop music.I say that was because its more entertaining but if there is another reason I would be interesred in learning.
What I don't like is the highborw attitude that people who listen to classical music seem to have towards Pop.To me it is no better and I think the pop music of now will be the classics of the future.
I don't think anybody has played Will Young to the sharks so it's unknown.

I am/was a brass man myself (mainly the trumpet). Not on your level, though, and more jazz then classic.
Nevertheless, I do enjoy some Rimsky-Korsakov, Brahms, etc. every now and then.

Another Brass man here, Tenor Horn when I was younger but now i'm a percussionist.

You must be trying to wind people up because if this is your argument about why you like pop music better than classical... well I really don't know what to say. Sometimes you experience something so stupid that no words can actually describe it. Almost like an angry, spiteful version of Karl Pilkington

What the hell happenned to my thread? I wanted to read stories about how emotional people got listening to the Chumps league tune at our stadium for the first time and it turns into a discussion of the merits of classical v contemporary.

I've been playing electric guitar for 43 years & have played every kind of stuff from Django Reindhart to Van Halen. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the genius of the great composers, even though it's not to my personal taste.
The comments from RH are in keeping with the general level of his posts on football. Ignorant, clueless & moronic.

There is a thread in Off Topic called "what are you listening to now".
You would think with all the connoisuers and those with refined taste that are calling the retarded philistine would have filled up that thrad with the classical gems they all know of.Funnily I have been able to find zero references to classical tracks but have a feeling am looking in the wrong place.
I wonder why a thread that has reached about 77 pages and has contributions from about 90% of the board has no reference to the intellectual shit so many people profess to love.

I listen to classical music. On car. From radio. I'm not cultured nor do I have any idea what pieces I'm listening but I do know that it calms me down and I enjoy it. It also has clear calming influence on my 5 month old lad.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

No, because that's like saying you can't appreciate a top cricketer or golfer or racing driver or rugby player because you prefer football. It is possible to have an appreciation of something & enjoy it occasionally without being totally immersed in it. Being a Philistine, you will not understand that. Your reference to 'intellecual shit' says a lot about your lack of depth as a person . The idea that someone has to be 'intellectual' to enjoy a piece of music just shows something is sadly lacking in you & you are resentful that people have the ability to appreciate what you cannot.

AND THIS IS THE BLOKE WHO WAS ARGUING THAT MANCHESTER LACKED 'CULTURE' . You & Tevez both as 'cultural' as each other.

Not a big fan either but it's what it represents to City rather than the actual piece which stirs the emotions.

Pav singing 'Nessun Dorma' for the World Cup was a particularly magical moment & they've been trying to re-create it ever since with bits of orchestral music or opera at football occasions but you can't just manufacture something like that, it was a one off.

The same sort of effect has been recorded by playing AC/DC to sharks

The philistine earlier on in the thread said there wre about 10/20 classical songs he liked.
The question I have is that if you say "Nessun Dorma"was a one off that can't be eqalled does that not mean other songs are boring and the one that was nice to listen to is the only one that was used.
There are plenty of people I think are not my cup of tea but they occasionally make a song that I like.
And also it seems the consensus of opinion I am a retard so can all the super brains give me a bit of leeway.Surely people should be able to rise above my feeble attempts to argue my point with the massive inrellect that is prevalent on this board.

It's a fact that art constantly evolves, and so does everything else. So I find it quite absurd when people insist that the present should consist of the things that once were.Classical music has become an exclusive, acquired taste, and the masses no longer listen to it. It's a fact even the most biased of music majors and cultured enthusiasts should accept.

that's because the thread is called "what are you listening to now" and not "what's your favourite classical music piece?".

Chill out, read "zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" by robert persig . That's a better discussion on quality.
