Bad Luck with City matches

Postby HeyMark » Mon Sep 19, 2011 8:16 pm

So I just received an e-mail from BMIbaby today informing me my flight from Belfast to Manc for the villareal game was cancelled. Had to go and book new flights for me and my bro (only an extra £30, but when you're paying for hotel etc it all adds up)

This continues a run which includes;

Flights for Mancini's first home derby were cancelled due to the Ash cloud, money lost on hotel too.
Booked flights for Spurs game last season only to have it rearranged due to FA Cup semis, had to book new flights etc costing over £100 extra
Booked flights for the Swansea game (Sat - Mon afternoon) had to book new flights when it was moved to Monday night

So due to a mix of bad luck / stupidity on my part i've had some tough times with city games lately.

Any of our other foreign posters had any fuck ups when booking trips to games?

I think I would buy a travel insurance policy if I were you.

Just wait till you grow up and get married and have kids and a mortgage etc. You wont have these problems.

You wont be able to afford the original flight in the first place.

Both games I've attended this season have seen us throw away two goal leads.

Change your bank account to one that gives you travel insurance.

I have a 100% record. Every time I've seen City live we've won.

Yeah I've had my problems too. First I flew to Manchester for the League cup semi-final only for it to be called off by the "massive" amout of snow. but, thankfully I had arrived on New Years day so I got to see us at Middlesbrough and it's always nice be on the piss in Manchester. ;)
but that was supposed to be my first ever derby so I was gutted. gutted. I was so disappointed to miss the match that I "had to" come over for the Liverpool match in february which cost a few quid but otherwise I didn't lose any money there as club were willing to refund the match ticket money too

Then onwards a few months and same thing happened to me - couldn't fly over for the derby because of the bloody ash cloud! fuclin hell. That was the only time I've lost money on hotels as usually I book the hotels with the option of free cancellation, but for that trip though we got such a great non-refundable offer that I took it. learned my lesson there

but for the reason what happened for with the HeyMark for the Swansea game, I never book flights until TV schedules are published. Or, alternatively I book flights so that even if our match is moved to Monday I'll see the game.
Not easy for us who travel but not much we can do. Hope your luck turns

It's a problem with the European games to be sure.
Rearrangements always seem to occur. I've lost loads on flights, trains and hotels in the past with UEFA and TV schedules!
Think a previous poster is right; get insurance where possible.
