Ratings vs Brum

Postby Moonchesteri » Wed Sep 21, 2011 10:03 pm

Ratings please. I only saw the last 3mins + injury time and short highlights including goals and the mistake by Pantylemon.

But how did the lads perform?
Cheers everyone

I'd give everyone a 6 for turning up. Nobody stood out at all, it was nothing more than a training game played at maybe 70%

Razak our best player, Savic and Kolo did OK, Hargreaves got valuable minutes and did the simple stuff well.

The Romanian keeper gives me the creeps though, and any injury to Joe Hart would be catastrophic.

I'd love to see som ratings and maybe short comments how everyonee did. I missed the gam completely as we weren't on here and couldn't find a stream.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Sorry I only got it on BBC radio through the OS. But I have it on good authority (SKY) that Owen Hargreaves was MoM, because he's famous. Although I dont recall hearing his name for the last 20 minutes of the first half after he got knackered! :-)

Mind you we can be all blase about training games for reserves etc but this is the sort of thing 'Good Old City' have cocked up many times.

Good lads.

never really had to get out of first gear. Was disappointed that Suarez didn't get on but professional performance.

Panty 6: how can someone that tall be so dodgy on crosses? Couple of decent stops and distribution was good
Neddy 6: did ok defensively but didn't offer a great deal going forward, maybe lack of confidence?
Kolo 6.5: solid and lead the back line well
Savic 7.5: hardly put a foot wrong, good in the air and on the ground and with great pace at times
Kolarov 6: quiet game, didn't do much wrong and looked much more of a threat than Ball
Hargreaves 6.5: far off match pace predictably enough, would have been caught in possession much more against better oppo. However, great strike for his goal, was involved in everything and no sign of any reluctance to make a challenge
Razak 6.5 : full and energy (until cramped up) and had a decent game, still not ready for the big comps for me though, doesn't look around enough and prone to the odd mistake
Zabba 6: solid display and nothing more
Bridge 3: woeful at times, ran around a lot in the first half but no pace at all and looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights every time he had the ball in an attacking position on the wing
Tevez 6: I'm possibly being generous! gave the ball away as often as not, he's trying all the old stuff but it just isn't working. As for his one clear chance, Aguero would've buried it which may yet be the story of Carlos' season :-(
Balo 6: took his goal very well and overall was good enough on the night

Subs
Milner 4: didn't get in to the game at all
Rekik not on long enough to rate but, as always, looked at home in the team. Can't believe this guy is only 16!
Scapuzzi not on long enough to rate

Eh? That wasnt the contribution I saw. Milner did OK, coasted through and saw enough of the ball without giving it away to merit far more than a 4? He also played a good pass on the turn that sent Tevez completely through for a one on one, which he fluffed. That aside Id agree with the rest of your ratings.

My one disappointment for the night was seen Onouha wearing a City kit which I hoped wouldnt happen. Maybe Im the only one but I thought we could have covered the right-back slot with someone else.

To be fair to the guy, Ball hasn't been with us for a while.

From this thread content, seems to be plenty who didn't manage to make it to the game, well done to the 25,070 who did.

Typical City Cup attendance and actually more than I expected with Brum filling one block in the South Lower.

Lets hope that if we did make the final, the ones who bothered last night would be first in the queue. Sadly wont be though. Credit to the South Stand and East Lower which were largely full.

Playing against a very poor brum side he got caught in possession numerous times, gave the ball away a couple of times and generally was much less effective than Hargreaves who was playing his first competitive football in nearly three years. He had half an hour to make his mark and largely failed. The fact that the Brum fans got bored of booing him after about 5 mins tells its own tale too. Maybe tempered by the fact that I was expecting a lot more of him but even so I'd only push it to a 5 max

Balo had his name sung for long periods scored a goal and looked the most unhappy player I have ever seen, I am not doubting he has something, They are none of the following for me, passion, effort and appreciation of what he has. he can fook right off with his attitude, the lad has quality that I do not doubt.

This is about him and his Agent screwing the club over in the press. I dont particularly want to see him wearing a City shirt again, thats what its about. Somehow the club would, and has, survived without him.

Balotelli's demeanour and general commitment level was poor, but then again he always looks pissed off. He's passing through the club and picking up a wage, but when he's older and looks back he might realise what a plank he's making himself look.

WoW... did somebody in this thread really only give Bridge a 3!!!... He was by far our best player in the 1st half!

My ratings below-

Pant' 6: Didn't really have anything to do, and didnt look overly comfortable handing-wise when he did, and really struggled with crosses. On the plus side he made one great save low down to his right late in the second half, looked very comfortable on the ball and his distribution was excellent
Ned 6: Played almost as a wing-back in a formation that didnt really suit wing-backs! Got forward well, but made the wrong decisions most of the time in forward positions. Very solid defensively
Kolo 5: Caught in posssion too often, and appeared (for obvious reasons) to be a little off the pace.
Savic 8: Excellent, especially once Zigic came on and they had more of a phyisical threat. Dominated the game defensively, did the simple things very well throughout and shown good strength, pace and ariel ability.
Kolarov 6: Did everthing that was asked of him defensiveley, but never looked a threat coming forward, over-lapping at the wrong times, and often wasting the final ball when he did.
Hargreaves 6: Great finish, and classy in possession. However, he never really got involved in the physical side of the game (was he deliberatley avoiding this?), seemed to be lacking the pace which was always an essential element of his game, and for obvious reasons he tired quickley.
Razak 8: Wanted to always be involved, always showing and available to collect the ball from either the back 4 or the forwards, struggled at times to get the balance of how deep to be when we attacked, but this will come with experience. Spread the play well, very comforatable in possession and never wasted a pass (although sometimes a little too keen to play the ball backwards). Got stuck in where it mattered... Worringly tired & cramped in a game played at almost training ground pace, although to be fair he certainley put in a shift
Zabba 5: Dissappointing, despite actually doing nothing wrong.!.. Just never had the impact on this kind of game that he usually does.
Bridge 7: Head and shoulders our best player in the first half, our most dangerous attacking player, covered well defensively, got stuck-in, and defended extreamly well when needed. Heavily involved in both goals, and really looked to be enjoying himself. Less influencial in the 2nd half, but so were all our attacking players!
Tevez 5: Couldnt get involved. Dropped too deep too often trying to get involved, but then wasted possession frequentley when he did. Didnt show the same willingness to close down and hurry defenders that he has in the past, and seems to be lacking match fitness (and possibley carrying a little weight!)
Balo 7: A constant threat. Made some great forward runs, but without Silva / Nasri etc, these were missed by the midfielders, and more often than not he didnt receive the ball. Lead the line well, despite little to no support from the midfield, and by his standards seemed to be enjoying his run-out!
Subs
Milner 4: Struggled to get involved, and seemed to be by-passed both defensively and attacking wise, at a time when they were starting to come into the came
Rekik 6: Good cameo, made a couple of key interceptions and blocks, looked good in the air, and showed a nice touch.
Scapuzzi 5: Played out of position, and this showed, but he ran around in the final stages and tried to get involved
