There used to be a myth doing the rounds that teams try harder against the Rags because of their success and so-called glamour, etc.

Utter bilge, of course. More like they throw in the towel before a ball has been kicked because:

a) The manager is a "friend" (read sycophant) of Taggart's and doesn't want to get on his bad side.

Or.

b) Because it's a "waste of time" knackering your players when points are unlikely, and you can keep everyone relatively fresh for a more winnable game.

Basically, City need to do a hell of a job to win the league purely because United get so many free points every season.
