Look at Ronaldo, first few seasons he wasn't that great but then look what happened, same with Nani who was a bit shit at first but now is a quality player.
The talent was already there, it needed someone to bring it out of them.
Ashley Young looks twice the player he did at Villa, same applies to Phil Jones and Smalling. He gets the very best out of his players- look at how many important goals and performances Park and Fletcher have given him over the years.
Johnson is a player who with the right coaching and management could be world class, he has brilliant close control skills, and can always be a danger.
Ferguson signs players to do a job. Ashley Young was exactly the same player at Villa but playing in a poor team. He & Milner carved up the rags two seasons ago. Milner would be doing the same alongside Young if he played FOR the rags now. I've watched us beat Villa & yet Ashley Young has put 5-6 brilliant crosses into our box. Ferguson sees that & pictures Wqayne Rooney scoring a hat trick. They have a system which works & they sign player who suit it. Imo, Jones may well play in midfield for Utd in the future (if they can find another CB to replace camelgob). He has the pace & power to do the job we are asking slow (Barry) or unfit (Toure) players to do, enabling Utd's wide men to get forward. If he doesn't play there, he has pace to add to the CB position which Wio & Vidic don't. We have, for years, lacked a CB with pace, a midfielder with pace who can get up & down & a bloke who can put crosses in. We still lack them £500 million later.
Ferguson has just signed all 3 in a simple & logical manner. That's why he wins stuff.
That doesn't really address my point. Johnson is a lot like Nani or Ronaldo when they were younger. The talent is most definitely there, he just needs someone to bring it out of him. Ashley Young does look better now imo, far more dangerous and the end product is there more often.
CB with pace? Richards, Distin, Onuoha, Kompany and Lescott aren't slow either
