City are delighted to become the first Premier League club to sign a content deal with the video sharing giant, YouTube.

The commercial deal will enable the Club to control our rights-owned or in-house created videos on YouTube, which receives over 3 billion views per day worldwide.

In addition, City will also be able to manage the advertising around its content, which is uploaded on to the site every day.

Since the channel’s launch, the Club has invested heavily in populating www.youtube.com/mcfcofficial with content in order to grow it into an international communications platform for fans and followers, both at home and abroad.

The first video uploaded of Samir Nasri signing for the Club received over 500,000 views in just three days.

Around 100 videos per month are created by citytv, the Club’s production team, for the official MCFC website www.mcfc.co.uk, which will also be uploaded on to the new YouTube channel (rights restrictions mean that footage of matches will not be available via YouTube.)

The deal is part of the Blues’ strategy to give fans as much access as possible, repaying loyalty by making exclusive, behind-the-scenes content available for free.

Richard Ayers, Head of Digital, for Manchester City, said: “At City, we are having a phenomenal year of growth and development
online.

"That means delivering the great content we make to where the audience is – i.e. on YouTube. This deal is the first move in laying the foundations of our syndication strategy and is part of a series of deals to expand our online capabilities.

“The ability to extend our reach and to increase accessibility to audiences is great, but we’re also looking forward to exploring the differentiating factors of YouTube, like using annotations, making bespoke interactive video and, more than anything else, becoming part of the thriving YouTube community.”

Jeff Nathenson, Head of Sports Partnerships for YouTube, added: "We are excited that Manchester City has become the first English Premier League club to become a commercial partner with YouTube.

“They are proving to be an exciting club both on the pitch as well as in the digital media space. We believe this kind of deal will have a global impact, allowing them to reach new fans in new territories with compelling original content."

3 BILLION view a day? Bullshit, more like 3 million.

3 Billion is half the worlds population, its just not possible! There arent even 3 Billion computers in the world.

And if each person watches two videos, then you only need 1½ billion computers. Last night I spent some time watching Jimmy Carr's standup, must have watched a dozen videos easily, if that's the average, you only need what, 250 million computers....and so on.

Richard dunnes own goal collection accounts for about a third of that I think.

Just a thought on this - and at my age I may be getting confused!!!

Given the Liverpool/TV rights announcement - is there not a big link here?????

What I mean is that the media outlet of the past/present has been TV and all rights have been negotiated as TV deals etc

But will the media outlet(s) of the present/future not be TV and Online??

Would this strategy of CITY's not be something that would put us at the forefront of such technology and would not the Sheik's wealth and previous investment strategies position him(his companies) well to be the leader in such distribution? - and taking it further would not other CITY links with US based media outlets have an impact for the future ????

Could it be that our management are a couple of streets ahead of the competition??

Just has the feel of several major strategic initiatives beginning to converge - or I might just need an early drink!!

Interesting point this. I wouldn’t mind an online database of games across all the major leagues with complete choice instead of one or two options. Pay 3-4 quid a game or a monthly subscription. I imagine it’d be quite a lucrative business and one which could find its way around the constraints of TV broadcast law. I’m sure the laws of the internet will differ to that of television and I believe as long as a decent amount of the money is pumped back into the game I think it’d be a great idea. Watching games through dodgy rivers is alright but when teams are struggling to run themselves its obvious how important that money is.
