sounded good on TV though (assuming most of the singing came from that end). especially considering there wasn't that much to sing about at times.

I'd be interested to hear how you felt who were there?

They joined in a bit. They sang more City songs than the villa fans did last saturday anyway. Hope that helps.

Loud for the first ten minutes but deathly silent for the majority of the game. More to do with the early Villarreal goal and shit performance than anything. Worth another go against Munich.

Didn't work tonight. Atmosphere was pretty non-existent but I think that the players' nervousness seems to rub off on the crowd on these Champions League nights

I was in there - I think that we are a bit of a 'we only sing when wer'e winning' type of crowd.

I could understand the quietness through nerves - what really pissed me off was the childish fucking obsession of throwing paper around and not watching the match - if anyone one here is one of the total dicks that thought that was clever - well............. sorry you looked a total dick and did CITY no favours at all - wtf was all that about!!!!

I think moving the away fans out of the way had the reverse effect. Had they have been in closer proximity to our singing section it would have worked a lot better and created a better atmosphere in general.

I was sat right next to the away fans and only 1 dude clapped when they scored. Was really eery with absolute astonishment from the city fans and no one cheering. Very lucky win for city today.

How many of them were there?

Sky commentators said only 17 away fans in the stadium - seemed unlikely to be so few but .........

I'm not having a go at you personally but I find that a sad indictment of how shite modern fans are; we need away fans to sing in order to get behind our team. I wonder how the Kop or Stretford end ever managed it ? Waited for some Blackpool or Burnley fans to chirp up in order to give them something to sing about perhaps ? Surely the Kippax would have been silent without an away supporting 'fat bastard' to take the piss out of ? Imagine having to spend 90 mins actually supporting your own team ? Unthinkable.

In truth, fans are utterly fucking crap now & real atmosphere is gone forever. It may resurface occasionally, like if we desperately need to beat Bayern or something but I was deluding myself into thinking that having a great team & playing at the top would generate something special. It looks like it probably won't. Even tonight's football, shite by recent standards, is fucking paradise compared to what we're used to, the big difference is the fans. Already the Hamburg game seems like a different era.

How all those people can buy seats in a 'singing end' & then just fucking stand there doing fuck all, is beyond me. We need Poles & Greeks to show us how it's done ? Absolutely fucking pathetic.

painful to watch
high point was "we are the south stand", about minute 7
Only thing more disappointing than their performance was the dickheads chucking paper on the field after the club had appealed for them to stop.
Funny when they were getting target practice on stewards, embarrassing when they were targeting Villareal players
we're going to need more atmosphere when Bayern come to town

Fuck off back to third tier. Just my opinion.

All the singing came from 110/111 AS USUAL. SS got involved at the start.

You need a large number of vocal fans nearby to create a really good atmosphere. Shoving them up in the gods is only going to be harmful to the atmosphere.

And vice versa i reckon.

We definitely have a sing when we're winning crowd. I think thats a part of the reason the lads take 15 minutes or so to settle in to the game so often. Highly doubt it's going to change though; something we'll have to learn to live with.

Why ?

There were never large groups of vocal fans near anywhere remotely near any of the famous ends in the 60's & 70's. How come they invented all those songs & made all that noise ?

Fans have gone to shit & need something other than football to entertain them.

I was in the South stand last night and the atmosphere was pretty flat, their goal should have fired us up but there wasn't enough of us singing to keep it going. If it's any consolation, I'm completely hoarse today.

I agree we need away fans in the thick of it to get us going. It was always the top corner of the Kippax that made the most noise, right next to the away fans.

I don't think we'll ever get that kind of atmosphere till we get terracing back.

It's worth another go though, but this time with a team that brings a few thousand and makes some noise.
