Other clubs' fans and Sunday?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Other clubs' fans and Sunday?

Postby BobbyJ1956 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:39 am

Who do supporters of other teams want to win on Sunday? Three years ago it'd have been good old City over the arrogant ManU, no question, but now it's mega-rich City, ruining football. Just as unpopular, or only getting there?

We currently stand 5th in the hated league, I reckon we will break into the established top 4 by the end of the season mind (see todays bollox)

Difficult question this.

For the last 2-3 years the media trash taliban have rammed it down everyone's throats that we're ruining football and have pandered to people's envy and jealousies, re our new wealth and spending power, so much so that we've been portrayed as the footballing equivalent of some Anti-Christ persona (ironic really, considering the religious background of our owners).

However, the football we've been playing this season and the goals we've scored have been a breath of fresh air for the Premiership and if we continue to develop in the future, as we're doing now, we'll be viewed as the great entertainers and everyone will love us.

At the moment, I think opinions for and against us are finely balanced (at least judging by the comments I've heard), which might show that we're starting to shake off some of the negativity directed this way plus, after years of hating the Scum, some people can't get that out of their systems to detest us more instead.

What does seem to be a universal theme amongst all the 'neutrals' that I know, is that they're all licking their lips at the prospect of a great game at the Swamp and can't wait for the week-end to come round to see what develops.

So, all in all, I'd say the jury's still out at the moment as to how we're viewed by the footballing world at large, but this season could be a big changer for us in overall attitudes.

Mind you, if we play the Scum off the park, I couldn't care less what any others think, so sod 'em all.

In the mess room at Leeds last week I was shocked as I overheard a Newcastle fan saying he hoped that 'man u' would win the league and not City. When I asked him why, he reasoned that when the filth need a player in their team, they find a home grown one, doing things "properly" rather than City who simply go and buy a player.
I did challenge him on this point of view and destroyed his bizarre view, but it is weird how they can suddenly be perceived as 'poor little united'. Actually I quite like that now I think about it.

All names I chucked in the ring. "oh yeah" he said.
Even when I made the point that Filth's greed for tv and gate receipts was one of the barriers that prevented his club being as successful as perhaps they could hope for, he just looked blank.
But how odd that folk should swallow the myth that they are a team of home grown excellence, when the evidence is right in front of their eyes.

Jonny Evans poached from Greenisland FC.
Tom Cleverly poached from Bradford City.
Darron Gibson poached from Institute FC.
Federico Macheda poached from Lazio.
Ryan Giggs poached from Manchester City.

Well done you mushrooms, the only ones you can truly claim are Welbeck and Fletcher.

How much other teams dislike you is usually a good marker of how well you're doing.

Bring on the hatred i say.
