he didn't listen and went home. This is what happens when you need to get to your car a few minutes earlier, dick.

Happens all the time.
Last nights game was as tense as I can remember, but in the final few minutes we had to get the ball forward and try to get a goal.
Sorry to all those who have to leave for whatever reason is more important (in their minds), but why bother going at all if you don't support the team when they need it.
Even if it had ended 1-1, I think they deserved our support until the end. Villarreal stopped us playing and pushed up at every opportunity to catch us offside. It was a hard game, and those who stayed got what their support deserved.

It is funny, how many do one or is it ? For me I would love to be in a stadium that is hostile, and we are the 12th/13th man and that little bit of fuck you for away teams. For me it is a release from day to day, I love City and at 46 still respect everyone around me but want to smash the oposition on the pitch and be so loud they cannot be heard. That is what a home game should be about.

Too damn right. And even before that game, I've seen numerous occasions where we've snatched something in stoppage time - Chelski away on New Years Day 1992 being one of them to get a 1-1 draw.

I never leave before the end and I must admit I felt rather smug and happy last night as lots of fans had left early near my seat, and they missed the best bits. To them I say this:

Even after last night, even after Gillingham, I think we are stuck with this problem. Its as though some fans just turn up because they are supposed to, not because of the football, not because of the team and certainly not because of the result.

I can sympathise a little when you are 3-0 down and being battered by Hereford Utd, but not a huge amount.

This season though, we have seen people leaving when we are playing our best football for 30 odd years, or as last night when we still have a chance of winning 3 points in THE champions league!

What really pisses me off about it is that we used to be commonly regarded as the best fans in the land - and now we are going to be considered as just another bunch of plastics

it was so euphoric on television that it just makes you pine for being there in the flesh. It's unforgettable stuff really, and a chance to be there in person is just something so many of us pine for. Thanks for sharing that little tidbit Mr Sapphire.

As much as I try to wrap my head around it I just can't understand.

Surely just being and looking around in a football stadium (even if we are losing) is better than looking around some bleak pub or the same ol' TV & couch setup at home. What on earth could someone be doing for 5 minutes that is better than watching a game live? Please ask your cousin and I'd love to know

I was one of the thousands that fucked off from Wembley at 2-0 down to Gillingham only to get back in the other side of the stadium at 2 a piece so you would have thought I'd learned my lesson. Last night I admit I left my seat before the final whistle...was a good job I hung round on the top of the stairs to catch the winner!

But when I was over there and stayed to the final whistle, it only took 30 mins to get back to Fallowfield. If you're going to book 2 hours out of your day to watch a game, save an extra 10 mins to see the end. Do these same people leave the movies 5 mins early to "beat the rush"?

Surprisingly, no - I tend to stay to the end, but on the odd occasion when my sister insists that we leave early we do tend to get home earlier....doesn't make sense I know, but if you do leave earlier you do get home earlier. I guess its just cos there's still half the ground in the stadium, which is STILL a lot of people.
