What Does Yaya Toure Actually Do?

This is the kind of performance I want to (but have yet to) see from him in a City shirt

We have Nigel to do that job at City and he does it extremely well.

As vandilser pointed out, [highlight]Yaya did a different job at Barca than he is being asked to do at City[/highlight].

Is he not being asked to play in a more defensive role this season - i.e. like in the video above?

My understanding was that he was being asked to join in with the attacking side of things more, especially when de Jong is in the side.

Thought he was excellent once Barry came on for Johnson. He seems to be more suited to an advanced midfield role rather than as a defensive midfielder as he doesn't really make tackles or interceptions. Once he started going on those barnstorming runs he was unstoppable and a joy to behold. His final ball could sometimes be better and his finishing is wayward but he drove the team forwards with some of those runs. Well done

If we're going to play with Yaya Toure in the team then he has to play in an advanced midfield position. He clearly cannot perform the defensive midfield role as well as players like Barry and De Jong and should not be asked to play that role

To be fair I've seen Dunne left for dead many times as he may be quickish in a straight line but turns like the QE2. But I agree with the point on Yaya.

I didn't think you were mate, your comments just reminded me of an observation I made about Yaya whilst watching him this season.


I'm also trying to keep this thread near the top of the forum so that it gets another mention on Blue Tuesday and I can listen to people getting angry about a very old topic ;o)

When a team have so many highly rated players that look out of sorts, it COULD have to do with how the manager is using them and the pholosophy being instilled.

Do you remember Spurs under Ramos? do you remember the amount of players that came highly rated but looked absolute garbage? Do you remember that Gareth Bale was the on going joke in that he was there over a year before he was actually in a side that won?

Yaya Toure is a class player but he doesn't look it now. That much I definitely agree with. But Pep Guardiola was very sad to see him go and said we had just signed a fantastic player. I've watched him loads of times and he looked absolutely class - just like he has done for us on several occasions, but I honestly don't think our manager understands this league and the importance of balancing power with pace. There is a massive imbalance in this city side and quite a few players are suffering because of it.
