FRESH calls have been made for more transparency on the salaries of the BBC’s highest paid stars as the row grew over revelations that former Scottish international footballer Alan Hansen earns around £40,000 an episode as a Match of the Day pundit.

Mr Hansen’s estimated annual £1.5 million pay packet from the corporation was revealed as the public broadcaster plans to axe 2000 jobs in a bid to save £670m.
