Wow another negative thread. 31 points from a possible 33 and let's just find someone to slag on. Yeah, he was invisible yesterday, but I know if were were tied 2-2 in the last 5 minutes I want the ball in AJs feet just outside the box, he cad take on anyone one-on-one with the best, and he has a great ability to find the corners of the goal.

I guess some people will never be happy, but there is no way we are going to have a squad of 24 top top world class players, it just isn't possible to keep them all happy. AJ is going to learn his place and he will be an even better player.

It's funny, but the only time I witness typical City these days is with negative posts.

It's a stupid thread because he came on with about 20 minutes to go

Anyone holding down a first team shirt and playing Champions League football for a team who have won all but one of their first 11 league games must surely be playing well

People slagging him off for not being a great fullback are fucking stupid. He tries to defend, he's not very good at it, so don't give him a defensive job any more than you would Silva, Nasri or Balotelli. Simple. By all means expect them all to track back & help out a bit by hrrassing & getting behind the ball but relying on any of them to do a solid defesive job is fucking ridiculous; all of them will regularly get it wrong, not just AJ.

Bob, if you want an extra fullback; put one on, you daft twat.

Thats what I said Saturday and nearly had to slug it out with the the thick coont in front of me.its gettin so if you so much as murmur that Mancini aint JC come back to earth you are in danger of bein lynched. It was a feckin diabolical substitution that even that astute tactician Shauny WWW was able to see and exploit. Luckily Ya Ya decided , after 18 months of 6ft 2" jumpin to 5ft 9", to do an improbable but decidely welcome impersonation of Wynn Davies and with one bound we were free.

That was a fantastic simple but excellent cross & quality header. If only we did a bit more of that when we're getting blocked out through the middle like v Napoli /Villareal etc.

Can't agree more with this. It doesn't even have to be when we are struggling either.. we should be mixing up the play as routine. The more different approaches we take the more teams are going to be wondering what we are going to do.. it is so obvious it isn't even an argument.
As for Yaya doing that more often.. if he had mind to it he would probs score almost everytime.. I mean if he was intent on going for the ball who the fucl is going to stop him .. Fat Frank?

I don't think there is any need to be rid of AJ yet especially when we have all of the tools on the bench to improve his game.

Going forward his only real problem is the ability to take players on and beat them consistently. He has the pace but too often runs into dead ends and canters into an easy tackle for the defender when others (Silva, Aguero, Nasri) would either beat their man or simply retain possesion by checking the run and passing. Mancini, Platt, Kidd, Nasri, Sergio and Silva can all help teach AJ more ways of decieving and beating a fullback so that he can exploit his pace more often. A cheeky step over, drop step whilst on the run or a drop of the shoulder combined with a burst of AJs pace could turn him into a world beater. But this is a minor flaw which will be ironed out in training, his passing like others has already improved.

Defensively is where Mancini see's, and he's not the only one, the biggest problem. It reminds me alot of Micah when he first got switched to fullback and didn't have a clue how to play the position, but he learnt it eventually. Barry, Silva, Milner and to a lesser extent Nasri (needs imrpovement aswell!) can cover in front of the fullback not just by making tackles but by occupying space well and standing up to slow attacks down and prevent passes/crosses. During the Wolves home game AJ was guilty of sliding in, selling himself cheaply, allowing Wolves an easy cross into the box which they nearly scored from. This is Mancini's biggest fear. All AJ had to do was stand his ground and the Wolves player was going nowhere fast (he was stuck by the corner flag, South-East corner). Experience will improve this side of his game but he also needs to put the hours in in training. His tackling doesn't have to be fantastic, like Barry can rob the ball off of anyone given the chance, AJ needs to be able to track and shadow attacking players slowing the game down and to prevent easy passes/crosses. As we know Mancini is a perfectionist and an Italian to play at the top in his team you have to be able to defend all over the pitch!

Sorry for the long post.

Hands off AJ, please! He's in a difficult moment of his carrier but I believe AJ is a sort of work in progress for Bobby Manc and his staff. It'd be a stupid thing leave him go to another squad. Every Italian City fan loves this lad, AJ has a bright future at the club!

According to this
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... -City.html

he's just signed a new five year contract.

England winger Adam Johnson has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City to underline his status as a key member of Roberto Mancini's squad.

Johnson, signed from Middlesbrough as a relative unknown in 2010, will no longer be the lowest-paid player in City's first-team squad with his wages doubled to an estimated £80,000 a week.

The deal means Johnson, who is desperate to play enough games to make Fabio Capello's England squad for Euro 2012, looks certain to stay at the Etihad Stadium despite interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs.

The £7million winger has a testing relationship with Mancini, who has admitted to being extra hard on the 24-year-old.

Johnson was angry at being left out of the 6-1 win at Old Trafford and was upset after Mancini criticised him following a match-winning performance in the Carling Cup at Wolves a few days later.

But the Italian manager said: 'If he were not a good player, I wouldn't waste my time on him. But, because he has everything, I don't want him stopping at this level.'

Johnson is enjoying his best spell at the club with four goals in his last six games before Saturday night's game at QPR.

He admitted in an interview with the Sportsmail that Euro 2012 is already entering his thoughts. 'Missing out on the World Cup was devastating for me. I can't not go to Euro 2012 as well,' he said.

Johnson's new contract completes a remarkable rise. He came to prominence in Middlesbrough's 2004 FA Youth Cup-winning team but his progress at Boro was blocked by Stewart Downing. However, Boro's relegation allowed him to join City.
