Best 1st touch

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Best 1st touch

Postby Rag_hater » Mon Nov 14, 2011 10:42 am

Now I think it might be Kun or Yaya(although his first touch a lot of the time seems a pass to me). Most of our lads now seem to have a good first touch except Edin perhaps.
SWP is good at it aswell.
Going back a little bit from what I remember Andy Cole I think really could kill a ball dead with his first touch.
Who was better?

Ali B's touch was always delightful.

Best first touch is either Yaya or Silva easily.

I would agree with both these 2 but there are quite a few who have a really good touch in the squad now. It's something they work on all the time in training with the short passing and 1 or 2 touch football they play.Yaya for me is up there.

In our current squad, I'd say Nasri and Agüero.

Two of the players with the best first touch I've ever seen play are Ade and Berbaflop.

Most of the squad have a great 1st touch now, including Dzeko, & only cock it up occasionally because of a lack of concentration rather than a lack of ability. Silva is the best imo).

Best ever? Both City players: Rodney Marsh & Kinkladze. Marsh could trap a rugby ball on an ice rink.

The guardian had an article on first touches the other day.

Baggio's against Juve is simply unreal.

The players with the best first touch don't ONLY control the ball, they also move it to exactly where they want it and are aware of what their next touch is going to do.

Denis Bergkamp and Rodney Marsh were the best I've seen in that respect.

Dzeko generally traps a ball further than I can kick it. His second touch is usually a header or a tackle.

Then again he can sometimes look brilliant do it's clearly a mental thing for him.

Best one I've seen recently was Silva's for his goal at QPR. He left the defence by the way he took a touch past them all. Mario's versus the rags wasn't bad either - first touch bottom corner, but strictly speaking I'm not sure it counts.

Watching stuff like that,is to me why it's called the beautiful game.
Also for me watching some of the stuff they show Zidane doing says to me that he was IMO the best player I have seen. I have not seen Messi do the kind of stuff Zidane did.Messi has scored a load of amazing goals but the rest of his game to me other people have done better whereas when in his pomp I think Zidane was the best at eveything.

Ali Benarbia had best first touch of any City player I've ever seen. Current or past. There were other things that limited his career so that he never became David Silva of his time (although he had pretty nice career overall). But if we are talking only about first touch, he had as soft as anyone.

Best EVER first touch was probably Michael Laudrup. Best ever in Premier League Dennis Bergkamp or Zola.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
