Sepp Blatter Rides Again

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

"Professional Footballers' Association chief Gordon Taylor says Sepp Blatter should resign as Fifa president over his comments on racism.

Blatter claimed that football does not have on-field problems with racism.

However Taylor told BBC Radio 4's Today Programme: "When you see the corruption they've had at Fifa, I just feel it's the straw that broke the camel's back.

"The comments he made about homosexuals not going to Qatar; it's time to move over for [Uefa chief] Michel Platini."

Taylor was reacting to comments made by Blatter in two separate television interviews when the Swiss leader of football's world governing body was asked whether he thought racism on the pitch was a problem in modern-day football.

I don't get all the fuss. Suarez calling Evra a nasty black cunt is true, he'd look a right tool if he called him a nasty white/yellow etc cunt.

I called Sepp Blatter a fat, ignorant Swiss cunt at a dinner party we both attended.

I don't understand why he got so angry though. After all, I did offer to shake his hand.

He got angry because ypu were calling him a fat cunt. The other adjective is a matter of fact as Chin points out. Context is everything. If i call someone in the street a black cunt for no reason its obviously racist. But if its someone burgling my house or stealing my car, is it still racist.? I think you'll find the equal ops mob say no.So what when a player has just put his studs down your leg? In my view he'd be a bit of a twat to start hiding behind the racism laws. However, if a player started abusing a player purely because he was black, different matter and should be punished.Personally I'd think very carefully about defending Evra and Ferdinand, neither stands scrutiny imo. And if we want to make a fuss, its very sexist to denigrate the female organ, but there you go, calling someone a prick is just way too friendly. Common usage, you see, and very difficult for the thought police to deal with.

Just goes to prove that constant vigilance and pressure is needed. There have been many victories against racism, but the war can still be lost.

Insulting somebody by the colour of their skin, is racist & is wrong. It may be of course that friends who are of different colours call each other all kinds of stuff in good humour but that's up to them, if you use the colour of somene's skin in order to insult them you are being racist, end of. Calling somebody a cunt is just a random swearword neither aimed at males or females. Calling somebody a Swiss cunt is not racist. Switzerland contains people of different races. Calling the cunt a white Swiss cunt would be racist.

If JT or Suarez are guilty, they should be absolutely crucified imo. Conversely, if it's possible to prove that Evra for example is being deliberately malicious in his charge, he should be punished just as strongly. Playing the card without cause is just as bad as being a racist.

It will be interesting to see how the FA and the media come down on their own racist captain since they are so keen to have a go at Blatter.

http://twitpic.com/7fizvs

Or perhaps a big ban for Gus Poyet for stating similar views held by Paul Ince and Blatter.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011 ... rez-racism

2 out of 92 managers in England are black. Perhaps we should get our own house in order before pointing fingers at others.

Or perhaps we should learn from our continental friends and admit it is a bit of a non story that is only fueled by the bitterness of a FA still hurting from the loss of a world cup bid.

Well I think some of you lads are missin the point here, even my hero, Ted.lol.If you call someone a cunt,as we all do, you are guilty of sexism which could be argued to form the linguistic manifestation of views which contribute to the undervaluing of women in society. It all follows from sociology in the seventies which focused for the first time on the social constuction of reality, ie the process by which social phenomena emerge and are reinforced by the words we use. So far so good. However the problem occured when halfwits began to reify that theoretical position to the point that words became more important than actions. Ofcourse they are not. If we take it to its logical conclusion John Terry is as guilty as that pair of feckin monsters from Eltham who will be shortly getting used to the joys of being on the receiving end of a large dry cock, and a shame their mates cant be similarly indulged. In my view John Terry is likely to totally comfortable with Anton's company and is unlikely to think him in any way inferior. Their altercation should be solved with a handshake in my view because it is only words in the heat of battle, and the Chelsea fans are right in my view, he is black and not very pleasant, and if he kicks you its fair to remind him of the fact. He wont be excluded from the team bus, made to sweep up, accused of rapin the bosses daughter, or paid half the rate of a white bloke, will he? Moreover tellin him in the heat of a game wont bring those factors about. The words in their context are insignificant in my view. Unpleasant, but hey, when was there ever a law about being unpleasant? So lets deal with the racism, as we have been doin for centuries, and stop feeling sorry for black people, lesbians, the disabled, women, and the bald. They dont want or need our sympathy unless they are wankers. And hey, its perfectly natural........

I think you're totally wrong on this. You don't get to decide whether a black person finds it acceptable & you don't get to decide whether most white or any other colour people should find it acceptable. I don't find it acceptable, I find it offensive, not because I feel sorry for black people or anyone else; because I think it's wrong & I recon that's the view of the majority in this country, which is a democracy.

As for you: so if a few prople say Pol Pot had a point, that would make it all ok ? My fucking arse.

And are you suggesting that, because we have some racists in this country, we have to eradicate all of them before we are able to comment on whether racism in football is right or wrong ? What a great big steaming pile of fucking shite that is ! So if someone shoots all of your family & some cunt in Switzerland says it's ok, you can only contadict him, if we totally eradicate murder from our country, otherwise you have no right to comment ?

Re JT: NOBODY is guilty until proven so. That is the law. There is no simple way to deal with his situation & it shouldn't need me to point that out. If he'd been barred from England duty, then found to be innocent we have punished someone for nothing, wheras if he turns out to be guilty, we have had a racist England captain in our last game.

Terry was the person who should have solved that, by claiming innocence & then reluctantly stepping down for a (friendly remember) game, to save his manager & team the problem. The fact that he's a complete self centred, obnoxious, penis head (or cunt) ruled that out.

If John Terry kicks you wouldn't call him a white bastard. So why is it ok to call Evra a black bastard if he kicks you? You're quite right, there is nothing for the FA to be complacent about. Nor the rest of us.

So you're claiming that choosing the best man for the job is racist?

Let's look at this carefully for a moment: 14 managers are non-British, none of these from countries with predominantly black populations. So that's 78 out of 92 managers being British. 2 out of 78 British managers are black, or 2.6%. That's compared to 2.0% of the overall British population (black Caribbean, black African and black other combined).

A few weeks ago this article was published on BBC News: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14679657

Not particularly interesting, and incredibly poor journalism, but one thing caught my eye:

Consider an experiment in 2003 by Marianne Bertrand and Sendhil Mullainathan, two American economists. They drafted 5,000 CVs and placed archetypal "black" names such as Tyrone or Latoya on half of them and "white" names such as Brendan or Alison on the other half. They then divided the white CVs into high and low quality and did the same with the black CVs.

A few weeks later the offers came rolling in from employers, and guess what? The "black" candidates were 50% less likely to be invited to interview. Employers were using skin colour as a marker for employment potential, despite the fact that the candidates' CVs were identical.

But that's not all. The researchers also found that although high-quality "white" candidates were preferred to low-quality "white" candidates, the relative quality of "black" CVs made no difference whatsoever.

It was as if employers saw three categories - high-quality white, low-quality white and black candidates. To put it another way, the subliminal assumption that causes us to think that black people are all the same has powerful real-world consequences.

Now, the final paragraph of that leads one to assume that the order was HQW > LQW > B. If you read the original report, however, you'll see that the order of preference was HQW > B > LQW.

It's stirring and misuse of statistics like this that have made me think that racism isn't actually being taken seriously these days, and is more of a journalists' plaything.

I'd be interested to know how many black assistant managers/coaches are amongst the top 4 divisions. Anyone?

YES IT IS. By convention. If you call a black person a cunt in the street because they're black (and that part is important) then it's racist, whether you say black or not (but if you don't say black then it's harder to prove that it's racist). If someone breaks into your house then it might be excusable to be inadvertently politically incorrect in the stressful and highly charged situation.

There's nothing sexist (or racist) about calling someone a cunt.
