citys new 200 million kit deal

Postby stevefromdonny » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:39 pm

ROBERTO MANCINI’S Manchester City are set to agree a new £200million kit deal with Umbro at the end of the season.

The club are currently three years into a ten-year, £6m-a-season contract, but the deal allows the terms to be reviewed based on City’s progress.

And the new tie-up with Umbro could see their annual payment rocket to £26m.

That would put the Blues’ kit deal in line with the £26m Umbro currently pay the FA for their contract with England.

The Premier League leaders have looked closely at the kit deals of Manchester United – £30m-a-year from Nike – and Liverpool, who will bank £25m from next season in a deal with Under Armour.

City, bankrolled by the Abu Dhabi United Group, recently announced record losses of almost £195m last season but that hasn’t killed the feelgood factor.

The Blues currently sell a million shirts a year in this country and three million in total when worldwide sales are added.

City also recently agreed a £350m stadium rights and shirt-sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways and expect these tie-ups to help them meet UEFA financial fair-play rules.

This would be very interesting if true but the trouble is you can't believe anything these fucking people print until a reliable source confirms it.

No reason we can't squeeze more than that out imo, our club may be behind the rags & scousers worldwide but most of our players are higher profile than most of theirs, by a long way.

We're behind right now, but not for long. We have our eyes on one major market (the US) and 'the next big thing' (India) so are strategically placed.

Was thinking the same thing - we currently sell 1 million shirts a year here in the UK and 2 million outside the UK......I reckon those figures will change dramatically over the next few yrs.

We'll really have to compete hard with Blackburn to get anything out of the Indian market, won't we ??

Mmmmm, although having thought about it further, perhaps not.........

What would stop somebody with loads of money, not saying who, setting up a business in say; India & buying 5 million shirts from City or the suppliers, then doing whatever they like with them ?

How would Platini regulate that ? I doubt the Indian govt would give a shit about giving UEFA access to private companies books in their country when they will have friends with much more power in more important places.

Just a thought.

Chelsea have had their eyes on the far east and USA for years, and that's as far as it got! Fortunately our branding people seem a little more savvy. Bring on the new chief exec.

On the Umbro deal, I'm sure it should be disallowed for UEFA FFP purposes because the Sheik's Great Grandfather's servant's cousin once bought an UMBRO shirt.
