What the fuck is that all about? I never knew anyone who called themselves a 'citizen' since i was a kid....( a long while now); Don't like it, it makes us sound like 'johhny come lately glory hunters', like you know who...

In an attempt to not sound like a 'Johnny come lately glory hunter' you have proven you are a 'Johnny come lately glory hunter' by not knowing a nickname that has gone back literally generations... Well done.
Ok this leads me to a question then, when is the date that is considered the glory hunter cutoff??

During my research for my various books I found material from the beginning of MCFC that talked of us as Citizens. Mostly in match reports. This started in 1894.
The Club have also been nicknamed The Brewery Men (due to links with Chesters), The Cits (shortened version of City) and before that the Ardwickites (when still Ardwick AFC). I don't really think the fans ever used those names either but all of those appeared in match reports and articles on the Club on a regular basis.
I did some research on nicknames when I was researching "Farewell To Maine Road" a decade ago and I found one old supporter who was adamant that Citizens was used by him and his friends when he was a boy in the 30s. Obviously, that was his view and I can't really argue with that, but I don't ever think any of the nicknames (other than Blues and maybe one or two others) were utilised much by regular fans.
Cheers,
Gary
