EPL or "English Premier League" is acceptable if you are living outside England and Wales as it helps with identification. The only reason La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A are used intact is because they are very specifically named - there are a number of Premier Leagues round the world.

The Austrian League is called Bundesliga as well.

Everywhere I've ever spent a decent stretch of time in Spain, they refer to it as 'la Premier League'. They also refer to the CL as 'la Champions League' or 'la Champions' rather than 'La Liga de Campeones'.

I can't speak for the Americas, but that's definitely the case in Spain.

Even in Oz the term EPL winds me up. The news only show highlights from England with any regularity so no ned for the shit acronym.

Then again this country is somewhat Americanised with spell check stealing sending you to the American terms and the average fool in the street calling it Soccer.

My favourite reply is to call them America junior, they soon call it Football for me.
