The English Premiership. A league in decline.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The Austrian League is called Bundesliga as well.

In Spain, they refer to The Premier League as 'La Premier League'. Ours is the pre-eminent PL in world football - that's why there's no need for further elaboration.

La liga premier...to be precise.

That is what they call it as well over here...only the yanks call it the epl or similar.

Everywhere I've ever spent a decent stretch of time in Spain, they refer to it as 'la Premier League'. They also refer to the CL as 'la Champions League' or 'la Champions' rather than 'La Liga de Campeones'.

I can't speak for the Americas, but that's definitely the case in Spain.

Even in Oz the term EPL winds me up. The news only show highlights from England with any regularity so no ned for the shit acronym.

Then again this country is somewhat Americanised with spell check stealing sending you to the American terms and the average fool in the street calling it Soccer.

My favourite reply is to call them America junior, they soon call it Football for me.
Tracking back is overrated.

You mean "they" as in the presenters on TV ????
The man in the street (Non English speaking) does not say League..they say Liga......" League " isn't a Spanish word in the Americas or in Spain and Latin's would have a job to even pronounce that word.

TV presenters, the media at large AND the man on the street.

It's hardly off the spectrum for Spanish pronunciation: 'league' = líg

It's not like we say c'est la vie as sest la vy, is it? You hear it, you repeat it.

Errrrr.... no. But if you "speak fluent Spanish with a Spanish accent" then you'll know that Spanish natives would have no problem pronouncing the English word league, and yet you suggest otherwise.

Are you trying to give me a Spanish lesson?

Might as well actually.

"Hispanic" refers to persons from Spain, Portugual or Iberian nations that speak Spanish. ("Hispanola" = "Spain" in Spanish).
"Latino" refers to persons from the Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic), South America (Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, etc.) and Central America (Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, etc.) (All Latin America) - which were colonized by Spain and hence, speak Spanish.

Did you spill your paste on them?

Luckily we buy him the non-toxic kind as this isn't the first time it's happened.

I somehow don't see this proving the original point. Each clubs position has to be taken into consideration, not just some random 'We're all the same' line.
