No doubt, I feel much comfortable when he's on the ball rather than Lescott.

Steven Hawkins can pass better than Lescott.

Savic is 20 and plays for his country....I like him and believe he will be a City player for a long time to come.

He's miles better than Lescott or Vinny on the ball but you rarely see him doing any of the real defending. Tonight it was mainly Kolo. Somebody has to actually get in there & fight for the ball. He's nice when thigs are comfortable but as soon as something awkward happens it's over to the bloke next to him or Zabba etc to sort it out.

He tracked Chamakh when he broke through our backline in the second half and showed him to the outside without letting him get ahead or round him - snuffing out a potentially very dangerous situation.

hopefully they'll show it on the League Cup Show - we're just up now on the highlights. (He's also good at getting into the right position for intercepting balls)

Fair enough but if you were to take a mental picture of our defending tonight, I recon it would mainly have Kolo & Zabba in it. If you were to play Zabba at CB, I don't think he would be any less effective defensively than Savic but you wouldn't put him up v Peter Crouch. I don't think you can possibly put Savic against him either. Bothroyd & Helgusson showed that imo; he looked like a child challenging them.

Well Bob is talking about signing defenders at Christmas so he probably doesn't trust him either at this stage. I'm a lot more optimistic after tonight but not at CB. I've said before now; if he plays CB against a quality striker, we'll lose unless we score 3 or 4. (I said that well before we played QPR btw & Jay Bothroyd doesn't count! )

Also remember Savic winning about 10 headers over arsenal's forwards. He was very good in the air

I caught about 20 minutes of the game this morning and he caught the eye, and Zabs to a lesser extent.

raw talent but we'll see whether he can make the step up. Right now nothing like ready for league football imo.

I somehow feel that in long term his attributes are much more suited to Serie A or La Liga. Just a hunch.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I like him and think he has the necessary talent but I would agree there is some distance to go before we could say he is a real premiership defender. But I think he is exactly the kind of young player we should have coming through the ranks while we have Vinnie and Lescott in place and Kolo sitting as cover. As long as he gets enough game time to develop I think we are on to a winner.

I thought he was an excellent signing, despite all the hysteria at QPR, when all the team was a bit shaky! Good lad

Savic was greath last night only if he could fix hes jump game he would be good sub for lescot and kompany , that is the spot we are having the most problems in the back and i think if we buy somthing on winter break shuld be in defence but this is promsing preformance by Savic

More promising last night, used the ball well when in possession and didnt get caught wrong side like he had done at QPR. Impressed at the progress he is making and when compared to the prices paid for Coates by Liverpool, and Mertesacker by Arsenal, he looks decent value.

Another damn good performance. The kid is a fine prospect. Very very decent player on the ball and looked composed in his play. Give the kid a chance, he has shown more than enough so far.

He's always looked comfortable on the ball, the question is still can he defend, especially in the PL with lots of set pieces and high balls. He also always looks likely to give away a daft foul

Reminds me a bit of Corluka in both composure on the ball and lack of without it.

If Mancini can coach the art of defending and teach him how to deal with English style play, he could be a star. If not, as others have said, I think he could look the part in a foreign league with the different style of play
