Imo we should sign 2 CB's in Jan, in case of emergency. If they are not needed, we can continue playing Vinny & Lescott til Feb to keep the continuity, then rest them individually for the newbies in Feb, against lesser opposition. If Kolo doesn't like it; tough.

Hi Ted. Agree completely with your assessment that we need one/two new centre backs.

Anyone who's read and managed to remember any of my posts will know that I've been a boring advocate of Neven Subotic, who I think would be great for us.

However, just as a matter of interest and in a perfect world, who would you, yourself, like to see us acquire in January, irrespective of the fees involved at that time ??

Im not a Cahill fan but thats what Ive heard on the grapevine.

I hope not. Cahill is an over rated bag of pus

Agree Piccs, he's not my cup of tea either. Just passing on what I've heard. Whether it happens or not, who knows.

I've not seen enough of Subotic to judge. Nor Vertongen, who keeps being linked with us, for that matter. I was impressed with the way Jagielka linked up with Lescott for England. I've never been a fan but the two of them did well considring the quality they were up against. I suppose they would ask for more than he's worth though. Cahill seems to be lurking, but seems to drop a bollock every week. Hangeland is in decent form again. None of theose fill me with confidence though.

If Milan really want Tevez & we could get Thiago Silva, I would go all out to get him, even offer them Kolarov as part of the deal that would be my choice. Then a stop gap PL player like those mentioned or Samba etc. I would rotate the quality 3 regularly & use the 4th v Wigan etc & in the UEFA v Slartibartfast etc. Like I say though, Subotic etc could be better for all I know.

Would love to see Samba as a backup CB. Big, athletic type to win everything in sight. Plus we could probably get him from venkeys for the cost of a few carryout franchises

He's not exactly cultured but he'd be ideal against the Stoke & Evertons & there are quite a few of those. All he has to do is be able to fill in & give the others a day off. Don't think he's a good enough footballer for Bob's taste though. He wants a ball player there I think; hence his initial reluctance to play Lescott.

He should get a clue then, we have 3 footballing centrebacks in Savic, Kompany and Toure. We need the athlete CB backup for Lescott to act as a stopper. Left-footed would not hurt either, bald is optional.

If the Kolo Toure interview, conducted in France, that tomorrow's Daily Mail is running is true then he has well and truly signed his own exit warrant.

alot of people on here have mentioned shipping off Kolarov. I havent made up my mind on that yet as he has definitely had some games where he has been great for us. in fact, i would venture to say that this season the majority of games that he's started at LB for us he has been solid. then, of course, there's the gams where he's been anonymous and/or shite and his defensive shortcomings have hurt us.
either way, if we get this kid I'd be down for shipping off Kolarov somewhere..or even keeping him, no harm in that, although his chances will for sure be even more limited.

I didnt know where else to put this as, atm, we dont really have a winter transfer window rumor thread and this is the only
one that would kind of work.
Jordi Alba is young and definitely has alot of talent and potential. He's quickly becoming the #1 Spain left back.
again, sorry if this is out of place...

I would of imagined Rekik is long term replacement for kolorov and clichy is still young, i dont see a need to sign an expensive left back anytime soon.

Centre back centre mid and striker is what i want, might sound a lot but we have a lot of games.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we got Samba, he could also double up as a centre forward; just think, he could be the 4th striker and the replacement for Tevez in the squad............NOT.

But seriously, a while ago Simon Kjaer at Roma was being regularly linked with us but, of late, he seems to have fallen from the radar.
Does anyone know how he's doing at Roma and is there a possibility his name might start to crop up again in January ??
