He was ok. Bayern targetted him and got some joy. He had to be swapped for relief.

It will have been a great experience for him and he was part of a clean sheet, but he was our weak link. Considering the rest of our side that's hardly a surprise though is it?

Good after a shaky start. What's "he had to be swapped for relief" all about?

I thought we were strong on the whole last night. I had resigned myself to the fact that barring an absolute miracle we'd be going into the Europa so not too disappointed and the scum going out like that made it even more bearable.

It's all ifs and buts I know but the poor results in Napoli and Munich and the fact that we didn't put Villareal away at home really cost us. Those results were down in no insignificant part to a combination of uncharacteristic mistakes and some very below par performances from key players. We had a bitch of a group and finished strongly and I can see us doing much, much better next season.

On that note, can someone confirm what likelihood is that we'd be seeded higher and not in pot 3 next year??

To finish, I have to share this quite absurd last paragraph from the Independent's match report

They will be back stronger from the experience in September. Expect that City side to boast a new central midfielder with the ability to open up defences – something they have lacked on the continent this autumn – and possibly with Robin van Persie in the ranks. Expect the defence to look very different too. That is for the future, though. The unedifying fact for now, which Mancini won't want to read in any language, is that £800m investment of Abu Dhabi investment has not been enough.

In the end City's exit was down to conceding early on against Napoli at home and from then on it was the usual eyetie shut the shop up and we were chasing hard. It's not ideal but it was by far the hardest group and I somehow get the idea that whilst we haven't got to the point where we've avoided relegation yet (old habits die hard) that we might well qualify for CL football next year.

Stretford are out and they really cannot afford that and what with losing frozenpea recently and vd itch last night they might well be feeling a tad more hungover than we are this AM.

So it's onwards and upwards for us to broad green sunny pastures and it's impoverished mid table anonymity for the rags. Get in!

Its a very tunneled view to say city got 10 points, were unlucky etc. The reality is city took 6 points from a poor Villareal (who everyone else took 6 points from) and another 3 from a Bayern reserves side who didn't care.

The 3 business games of the division which decided the top 2 yielded poor results.

Away defeat to Bayern
Away defeat to Napoli
Home draw to Napoli

City simply weren't good enough and if anything the fixtures landed favourably having an already qualified Bayern on the last day. Although a double over a La Liga side is still good and in fairness Bayern are one of the Top 5 teams in the world and Napoli a very, very good up and coming team who really impressed me majorly.

Its a tough but very good and useful lesson, this is the elite tournament and you don't simply waltz into it and be a contender to win. City will be well prepared for the knockout stages next year.

Home draw against Napoli the deciding factor overall.

Hard to say but we aren't yet a top class squad, even if we have a lot of top class players. I've a long experience of AC Milan Champions League games. Rossoneri learnt year after year that these games always need a special killer instinct. We must involve in the next Europa League, even if the level is miles below the Champions League of course!
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

Still need to acknowledge the fortune of the draw giving City a gimme 3 points against an already qualified Bayern. City escaped an important, difficult match which Napoli had to play. For going forward I think its a better attitude to acknowledge City weren't good enough rather than say it hinged on one result. Had City beaten Napoli without the fortuitous turn of events it only meant that they'd go through with a draw or better against Bayern, which is no small feat against one of the best sides in the competition. Defeat at home to Bayern even with a Napoli win would still be 3rd.

I disagree that it was the 1st game against Napoli that did us, for me it was the game in Naples, in particular their second goal when we were pushing for the winner. Fair enough, we could've gone through there and then but if that'd have been a draw we would still have been in the driving seat going into the last match at home.

I agree that we weren't good enough overall against Bayern and Napoli, only taking 4 points from 4 games and this is where Mancini needs to note the lesson of CL away games. Saying that, I still believe that the ref had us over in Bayern by not giving 2 clear penalty's. After that we seemed to resign ourselves to the act that we just could not win against 16 men.

We dropped points in 3 matches. Fix any of them and we might have been through. The damage was done in September, and that's tough for an team in its first CL campaign

Agree about Napoli

Bob underestimated the opposition and did not learn from this in the second leg.

Look very closely at his interview on Wednesday , he knows what he has got wrong.

Very diasppointed

Fortine of the draw? FORTUNE OF THE FUCKING DRAW !!!???

This is typical of the kind of 'listen to my Champions League knowledge' bullshit that rags come out with. How the fucking hell can we be fortunate when we're in a group with Bayern, Napoli & Villareal ? What if Napoli had started away at Bayern? We may have been top of the group after the 1st game & full of confidence to play either of them. The idea that we couldn't have beaten Bayern at home is also fucking ridiculous; we should have had 2 pens at their place before they had a decent attack. We may have torn them to
pieces, as they would have been under more pressure to get a result than us.
