I personally don't think much has changed. In the old Kippax the noise created by the singers used to spread along the terrace. Those who wanted to join in did so and it made it seem as though the whole side was singing. The noise under that old roof was incredible If you ventured into the North or Main stands the atmosphere was the same as at COMS.
The design of the new stadia do not help matters. The lower tier of the south stand is, IMO, too shallow to create the kind of noise the old stadium used to. Arsenal suffer more than us. Older stadia, where stands have been rebuilt into single tiers under a cantilever roof provide loads more noise, but interestingly, only at one end, usually behind the goal, with away fans generally at the opposite end. This creates more noise inside the ground as the home and away fans compete.
Whether our stadium will lend itself to a better atmosphere, like the Hamburg/scum cup ties of a couple if years ago on a regular basis is, if you ask me, debatable.

Maine Rd was ten times better than this even after the old Kippax had gone & we were in the 3rd division. The acoustics there were better, that is definitely true & something the club should look at (it probably can be improved), but the 'singing sections' were also better & more supportive of the team, which in turn got the rest of the ground going.

There were of course dead days at Maine Rd atmoshpehere wise, when it was just as bad as it is now, but not when we had a team playing anything like this kind of football; the roof used to shake when we played good stuff. Put this team in the old Maine Rd & the place would be a cauldron of noise.

The design of the stadium? Absolute pissflaps!!

The lack of atmosphere is because people do not sing. Regardless of what design of stand we sit in, people get bored of making noise after the first ten minutes then dont open their gobs again until we score (usually just before the break).

We only sing when we're winning... Sing when we're winning (but only for 2 or 3 mins after each goal)

And on 90 mins there are only about 25% of us left in the south stand to sing!!

You dont need a banter or singing section you need to want to get behind your team with noise.

Interesting that the singing increase last night when it was clear we were out. It was like old City- we're shit but we're proud. Not sure we've got the hang of being good yet.

Oh and get rid of replays during a game. Everyone stops celebrating to watch a replay, myself included. That's why the poznan's died as it only starts once the game has kicked off again.

And there lies our problem.

Plus the amount of glory supporters moving into the south stand in the last three years. (they may have came before the trpohy, but they were not there before the cash was when Pearce was in charge)

The acoustics do contribute. When people sing in other areas of the ground, it sounds distant, wheras in some grounds, even big grounds, it sounds closer & thus the less vocal supporters in other stands are more likely to feel like they are part of it & join in. Whether this is caused by the dip in the roof at either end I don't know but it would be possible to test it & perhaps even fix it if the club were willing to spend a few quid on it.

It would make a difference if people were singing but they arnt, not in the singing section or the south stand... That is a fact.

We do only sing at the beginning and when we score thesedays.

This is true but it would help create a better all round atmosphere which may cause people to sing/shout more. Even the North Stand occasionally start up songs but they fizzle out as it doesn't spread.

The banner says Loud Proud and Loyal. 2 out of 3 ain't bad i suppose, cos it certainly isn't Loud.

Perhaps that's why the banner was removed at half time!!

Wembley was the strangest for that. In the semi I was lower tier behind the goal. Mentioned to a friend who was in the wrong end that if they'd tried singing for their team they might have won. He said he couldn't hear us either, yet I left with a ringing in my ears like you get from a concert.

At the final I was top tier and at the side and the stoke fans were really clear. Bloody modern stadiums

If they move away supporters to the east/west stand permanently eventually supporters from 111 etc will want to move up to the 3rd tier too. negating the point of an 'expanded' singing section.

i think the club have missed the point of how the atmosphere is being generated at the far end of the ground.

unless its all a cunning ruse to move away supporters into the most expensive seats!

Having seen a replay of the game, it's interesting that the Germans are singing non stop from the kick off wheras our so called singing section chirps up briefly here and there, not very loudly & is mainly singing fuck all. When they do sing loudly, the rest of the ground do join in. Later in the game it seems most of the singing is being generated all around the ground rather than from those areas.

As cheerleaders, our lot are crap & we would be better off with a bunch of cute, athletic, girls in front of the stands imo.

maybe for next season or season after, they should have a proper sining section, and have a piece on the season ticket/card renewal if you want to be in the singing section so it gets everyone together??

how you police the people, not joining in that have asked to be there, i'm not sure

i think putting the fans in the clouds isn't the answer

I was ashamed last night
Not able to get my own seat I was down in the SW corner row M.
THe atmosphere was crap.

A couple of brave individuals with appalling songs to sing...

If you all like city clap your hands...
We're not really here...
The best team in the land and all the.... &etc

FFS can't we start a thread of suggestions for songs that people can latch on to?
Smart arse lyrics don't work
It has to be something simple but easy to sing and preferably amusing
I like the echo like quality of Edin Dzeko chant and back in the late 60s there was a very simple

C....I.....T.....Y

A two note line that was taken up by various parts of the crowd and sort of passed round like a mexican wave. Anyone remember that one?

IT WAS TRULY HYPNOTIC and had goosebumps going up and down your sping!

Is that the family stand? If so, it's always a problem for night games as most of the kids can't go, so the odd seats get sold or whole families seem to either not go or move. As a result it's full of people who attend occasional games and often people who don't seem to be city fans. As a result an atmosphere is impossible

I was all for the away fans being moved, until I actually went to a game and witnessed it myself. The away fans were just replaced by a bunch of day trippers and families with annoying fookin kids climbing on their seats rather than watching the game. If we do move the away fans, the club and fans in the south stand need to go all out in making it a city ultra section. When I say 'Ultra' I dont mean a bunch of hooligans but more towards a hardcore of fans that sing, brighten the place up and make constant noise for 90 mins. You could see that Munich fans clearly had a hardcore of fans and I was very impressed, made us look bad to be honest.

I get fooked off when just a pocket of us start singing and everyone around us just stands there with their arms folded with faces liked a slapped arse. If you want to watch the game in silence, stay at home. It seems to me some fans that attend games are too cool for school.

Also, like above, we need some more catchy chants that can go over and over for a long period of time. Think along the lines of 'never felt more like singing the blues'.

I found myslef looking up at the Munich fans last night and thinking 'I wish we could be more like that' and we can if we all want it enough..
