Important a goal as Dickov's was, it was in a third tier play-off final ffs.
Statue status should be reserved for greats who have ensured great success lifting trophies of real magnitude. That puts Mercer and Allison in the picture, along with that great team of 68-70, with notables like Bell, Lee or Summerbee. The other stand-out candidate is Bert Trautmann from the 56 Cup final, which resulted in a trophy and great strength in the face of adversity.
Loved the Goat hence my username but his era was a trophyless one so I wouldnt suggest him either - yes I know we would the 2nd tier league but being a traditionalist I wouldnt class it as a major honour.
In summation, a Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison statue at the top of Joe Mercer Way would be my nomination.

I like the idea of Paul Dickov's slide.
Almost a 'typical City' moment.
And it would serve to remind everybody we know where we came back from.
And if we ever end up there again, to show us we can turn it round.
Pivotal moment of great symbolism of what our club is all about.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

Couldn't disagree more
It was possibly the most important goal ever scored for the club
If we had lost that game..who knows what would have happened
We might never have recovered
We certainly wouldn't be here like we are today

This is 100% true. More important than any trophy winning goal. You can always come back the year after & have another go at winning a trophy; the existence of the club as we know it was under threat that day. If that hadn't gone in, our derby now might have been FC Utd.

If we're having a statue in memory of the Division 2 Play-off final it has to be Weaver doing the 'come here' motion after WINNING us the match with his penalty saves.

I also have to disagree with you disagreeing as it was indeed the MOST important goal we have scored for as long as I can remember....it has even been said we could have folded if we did not get promotion that year.

The thing is, it was Dickov's goal that got us there but it was Weaver's save that won us the game.

All this stuff about the club disappearing if Dickov had not have scored is a bit of an exaggeration I think. We might still be fucking around in the champioship like leeds are but I dont think we would have folded.I'm sure most would be like me and I will follow the club no matter where we are.
I don't have to be there to know I am a fan always have been and always will be.

The club as you know it might have been no more. We may have been back as City of Manchester FC or something, several divisions below where we were. The majority of the support would have remained, and we could have had some glorious years with crowds of 20,000 watching a non-league side get promoted. However, there's a very good chance we would have gone bankrupt.

But one is a more iconic image, probably as Weaver's is harder to understand in a photograph. Try searching google images for 'weaver wembley' and 'dickov wembley'.

If you type in Nicky Weaver Wembley it's the first photo mate. At the end of the day, Weaver won us the match and he never got the credit he deserved for it because it was all given to Dickov.

ok, is if you add nicky as well. I'd still say Dickov's was a more iconic image, but not saying it's more important.

Will it be an accurate likeness...complete with dark glasses, white stick and guide dog...and will it be wearing a Chelsea scarf? They could erect it next to the one of Wilkins in his Sky TV Jacket.
On a serious note, I'd like to see a bronze statue of Taggart erected at Eastlands, alongside one of Gary Chuckle...surrounded by huge bird feeders....the sight of them gradually getting covered with pigeon shit would gladden my little soul.
See, my genius lives on.
