As I was saying, it has been upsetting at times with the problems we have had with relegation, losing managers left, right and centre, but all this means we appreciate the success that is now coming our way. I like all of you are proud to be a blue, and our history is part of who we are as a club and as a team. Look at our growth and now with the stability we are getting, we will be soon creating more history to be proud of

it would have been better to let everyone else have a go at finishing your post as a caption competition tbh.

i'd put the happy face smiley wink but it seems insincere.

According to my Dad around 1974. He`s not around now to tell me which match, but I remeber it was cold. I have a feeling it was Wolves.

Been supporting City since my 5th Birthday in August 1990 so from 90-91 season onwards.

My dad is a big United fan and my mum just went out and bought any blue football shirt she could find. It happened to be a City shirt with the old 'brother' sponsor logo across and that was it I have been a City fan ever since.

First match was at Anfield, Liverpool-City think it ended in a draw.

Favourite player at the time was David White, so within a few weeks I had the number 7 on the back of my shirt as that was his number.

Favourite players down the years would be David White, Paul Walsh, Uwe Rosler, Georgi Kinkladze, Kevin Horlock, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Shaun Goater, Paul Dickov, Richard Dunne, Eyal Berkovic, Elano, Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Vincent Kompany, Nigel De Jong, Pablo Zabaleta, Carlos Tevez, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli.

Favourite managers down the years would be Joe Royle, Sven Goran Eriksson and Roberto Mancini.

It was easy for me - my parents took me from being a baby. In fact my mum was stood in the corner of the Kippax near Platt Lane for the Sept 67 derby just over a week before I was born.

My first proper memory of City I can date was Rodney Marsh's debut (my first hero), but they'd been taking me to Maine Road (in Platt Lane) ever since I was born (I guess neither of them wanted to stay at home and miss the excitement of that era). It is one of my regrets that I do not know specifically what my first game was.

My parents both went to games at Utd as kids before City, and so their stories are much more fascinating. My mum was a regular at OT because of her family influence (all from Clayton area and my Grandad, who had been a Blue as a boy, knew people like Bert Whalley at Utd), but when she met my dad he started taking her to Maine Road and she soon saw the light. Now she hates United with a passion.

My dad had a mate who persuaded him to go to Utd at Maine Road when he was a boy (about 1946), and the next week they went to City. Even though Utd were the more successful club in those immediate post war years, simply standing amongst City fans in the old Maine Road Scoreboard End was enough for my dad and he immediately loved the humility and humour of City fans. The venue was the same but the atmosphere and nature of fans seemed completely different to him.

If it hadn't been for my dad going to Maine Road to see both Utd and City who knows how my support would have developed. He was able to directly compare the 2 sets of fans and atmosphere and he chose the one he felt most comfortable with, the people like him.

I wanted to watch a live match and my dad said he'd take me to Maine Road. All the talk from the fans around me was about this great young player Mercer and Allison had just signed from Bury who was making his home debut. That was Colin Bell. Thoroughly enjoyed both the chat with the fans and the match and was rabbiting about it next day at school and a City mad girl asked if I wanted to go to matches with her. Have been a blue ever since.

This is not a dig in any way shape or form, you do what you want in life, though have you ever thought of just typing in the same colour as the rest of us?. As I say not a dig, just a suggestion, as it takes my eyes a few moments to adjust to your posts so I have avoided most of them. Once again before anyone jumps on a high horse, it's just a thought! I will even put best wishes just to enhance that its not a dig!

So how did it go with the lass? Did you end up marrying her? Or did you at least get into her pants?

I've gone past the age of jumping anywhere, let alone onto a high horse. I don't post very often so I use a different colour so I can find them more easily.

Best wishes to you too Ruralblue.

I started going fairly regularly during the 88-89 promotion season. The 89-90 season was my first as a season ticket holder and I've had one since. I 'm pretty sure I managed to do a whole season home and away one year without missing a game. I think it might have been the 92-93 season. Those were the days. Watching us come from 2 down at Coventry.... Keith Curle scoring the winning pen. Taking the piss out of Tim Flowers behind the goal last away game at Southampton. Timmy, Timmy.....funny. Remember us playing Bristol Rovers in the League Cup at Bath City for some reason. Got to the game late cos the coach couldn't find an accessible route to the ground....I remember being able to see the floodlights from the distance but the coach couldn't get there. That wasn't so funny at the time.

Sept. 77. City (2) v Bristol City (0).

Corrigan , Clements,Donachie,Watson,Doyle,Owen,Power,Hartford,Channon,Kidd,Tueart(I think) . Barnes might have been sub.
Gerry Gow was playing for Bristol - kicking everything that moved.

I was a R*d in those days but one of the enlightened dragged me to Maine Rd. "just for a laugh" - after that I gradually turned away from the a dark side
