Transfer fees we receive for our players

Postby aaron bond » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:02 am

I've been thinking about this quite a bit recently with the transfer window coming up...

In the past we generally have seemed to receive too low a value for the players we sell on. Anelka is an example that springs to mind, though more recently we had the issue with Caceido too. I even think we could have got more for SWP. I see some of the transfer fees other clubs pay for very average players and think we allow some of our players to leave too cheaply.

Now with the transfer window coming up, the media keep reporting that Tevez is going for 17-20m and Onohua for about 4m. I know Tevez's transfer has dropped since the summer and his wages are very high but we should most definitely be looking for more than that. And with Onohua - Wolves signed Roger Johnson for 7m in the summer - a ridiculous fee! Surely Onohua is worth more than the 4m being touted???

Am I overthinking this just because it's City or do we need to be tougher in our demands from other clubs?

Tevez's transfer fee is pure speculation.

Onouha at 4m is a steal, but at the same time, it's above market value for a player who has played less than 10 first team games in the past 2 years. If we sold him for 7, I'd be amazed.

I agree with you re: Tevez, but we have a history of selling players for lower than their value so that's my concern. I know we will get nothing near the fee we were after in the summer. I'm hoping we will use PSG's wealth to get a good fee, like clubs did to us when we first came into the money.

24 mill for sweep not enough for you?

It's because the buying club have to fork out a big wage.and we are desperate to get them off the books.

I agree with Op to a certain extent except for the SWP deal, we did amazingly well to get anywhere near that figure, wasnt the rival bid from arsenal only 17m?

We always seem to sell for too little, the Anelka deal still irks me to this day, anything under 25m for Tevez and i will be raging, even though Tevez true value is 40m, there is no way we can sell at a loss to the quoted 25m we paid when we bought him.

Agree to an extent, but bobby has hardly helped with the way he so blatantly freezes players out.

Between that and our silly wages we are basically bending over voluntarily.

Even worse, thats my point! We got a great deal for swp as if chelsea werent in the running and SWP forced the issue we might have had to take Arsenals offer, getting anything over 20m was great business as he was never truly worth that.

Yep, totally agree. As gutted as I was at the time, that bid kept the club afloat for a bit longer as we were in serious financial shit at the time.

He got a full season under his belt at Sunderland last year. I don't know why they didn't want to hang onto him.

Ned, Tevez, Ade, Bridge are almost being given away to make room at Carrington, Bellers was on form worth a good fee. Allowed to wander off for next to nothing. Northern area football is coming soon along with a Southern league so players can go off on loan without any moving needed. IMHO If you Take an honest look at English football It could be in meltdown, top players earning a million a month and the likes of Andy Carrol going for 35 mill and on £75,000 which is cheap, none of it is sustainable we have reserves on 90 bags like Bridge. Our wages kills a players options, if he wants the same dough why the fuck would you leave 400k a month for doing nothing like Bridge.

It's a buyers market and we are loaded over the top with players we don't want on big wages. Not hard to figure out we can't demand the biggest fees:)

I believe we now get £3.6mil for Sturridge as he'a played for England and we will get 15% of any fee should Chelsea sell him

I suppose as player leave us, we have to take the rough with the smooth, we have nicked a keeper for 250,000 from Norwich, the worry is he is only 16, 250,000 for a kid Norwich wanted a million, no wonder Daniel wanted £60k he was poss on what £30 bags with bonuses, before he has 25 games for City a few mill in the bank already he is made, Football is crazy and creates it's own problems. Tevez worth 30 mill will go for 22 max Cahill could be 10 mill, Rodwell 20 plus mill for potential.
