Just because a country has a culture of institutional racism it doesn't give a person an excuse. He was on Evra's back the whole game winding him up so try and tell me he was using this casually racist term in an endearing way.

'Let's kick racism out of football', is that the name of the FA/FIFA campaign? If so, let's mean it. Kicking him out for 8 games is a start, but not enough for me. Terry should be banned for a season and not allowed to play for England again. He is objectionable.

Strangely he was also allowed to shout Fuck Off at us three times after he scored in the 'adebayor game'.
I didn't mind, but strange how he escaped any criticism at all

Suarez...Charged and banned by the FA.
Terry....Charged and to appear in a Magistrates Court.
Why the difference. If the evidence of racism was compelling enough for Suarez's guilt, why is he not in court?

...and why has Evra not been hauled up to account for the part he played.

Terry's has been captured on video & a complaint was made at the time.

I've no liking for Evra, in fact he's an odious little turd & probably is guilty technically of a bannable offence himself, but Liverpool have referred to previous 'unfounded allegations' in their statements . Now we may all have got stuck into him saying he made it up because he's a bad loser etc in the past but what if it was a case of 'unproven' rather than 'unfounded' ? What if Evra is standing up for himself wheras other black players are taking this shit & saying nothing ?

Something has swayed a completely independant panel to make this decision, so in this case there's obviously a reason they are believing his account of what happened rather than just because he said so. It could be that he was telling the truth on other occasions too, but had no proof.

suarez is the biggest hate figure in the premier league...easily. i wonder how much his flopping, cunthole antics weighed into the decision? shirley, that shouldn't come into play, but you have to think that at the core people think he's such a cheating, manipulating fucker that his reputation puts him on the back foot if there is any gray area in the case. human nature and all that.

I love how the statement from Scouse basically says "But Suarez is actually black as well so how could he be racist!" Laughable stuff. In fact, pretty much the definition of racism to be fair.

Ted,
I don't doubt that the evidence against Suarez was compelling, nordo I have any problem with him being found guilty for the part he played in the incident. Nor do I doubt that Evra was the victim of that slice of action.

What does concern me, from what I have seen on televised clips,Evra also played his part in events leading up to the incident. It seems that he is being perceived as the victim and any part he played earlier is being ignored because of this.

I would like to see Evra's actions also being investigated.

Agree 100%.

If a player is accused of racism and is found not guilty then I hope they throw the book at the accuser..ban him for 8 games as well.

Where did he admit to racially abusing Suarez ? All I've seen was that he insulted him in Spanish, which is technically a bannable offence (abusive langueage in general) but if we want Evra banned for that then it means we can't argue if Balotelli, Joe Hart or similar also get banned for it tonight.

The level of proof required by the FA is the same as a civil court not a criminal court i.e. 51% rather than 99% sure

Police assessing John Terry racism claims after complaint• Police alerted after complaint from member of public• Chelsea captain denies claims of racism made against him

reddit this Dominic Fifield
guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 25 October 2011 09.45 BST Article history The Chelsea captain John Terry has denied allegations of a slur on the QPR defender Anton Ferdinand. Here is a video of the incident Link to this video Anton Ferdinand will decide on Tuesday whether to report the Chelsea captain, John Terry, to the Football Association over an alleged racist slur, after speaking to the manager at Queens Park Rangers, Neil Warnock.

Video footage of an incident towards the end of QPR's 1-0 victory has circulated in which it has been suggested Terry calls the home defender a "fucking black cunt". Terry denies this but the pictures are to be scrutinised by officers from Hammersmith and Fulham police after a member of the public emailed a complaint.

That investigation is currently in a "consideration period" while officers assess whether there is a case for Terry to answer. The England captain has already issued a statement in which he said viewers had "leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand". Terry said he had been responding to accusations from the opposing centre-half that he had used racist language.

"I thought Anton was accusing me of using a racist slur against him," he said. "I responded aggressively, saying I never used that term." The key part of the footage, where the England captain said he shouted "Oi, Anton, I never said …", is obscured by Ashley Cole walking across the camera shot.

The furore over the incident, and a fractious fixture which saw Chelsea reduced to nine men before the interval, is understood to have spilled into the tunnel after the final whistle, with angry altercations involving players from both sides. Terry and Paddy Kenny, the QPR goalkeeper, continued arguments that began on the pitch, and other players are believed to have become involved in what is a narrow corridor outside the dressing rooms.

Terry said he had spoken to Ferdinand once tempers had calmed "and there was no problem between us", saying the incident had been "a misunderstanding". Yet the notion that the pair departed amicably has been rejected by sources at QPR. The club have declined to comment publicly on the issue and Ferdinand – normally a keen twitterer – has remained silent.

Terry is preparing to defend himself and on Monday night told the Daily Mail: "I'll do whatever it takes to clear my name and I don't have anything to hide." In an apparent reference to a rash of negative postings on social networking sites, he added: "I'm not taking that level of abuse."

The Rangers players will report back to their Harlington training on Tuesday morning. The club made preliminary contact with Ferdinand by text on Monday and the defender and one of his representatives are due to meet Warnock after training to discuss whether the club will ask the FA to investigate. It is understood the player and the club were minded to pursue the matter, though the 26-year-old asked to sleep on the matter before making a final decision.

Cheers Ted, the defence that he was denying any racist comment seems plausible but obviously the Prosecution Service didn't think so. A decent brief could well make that defence stick.
